Engineering Xylose Isomerase for Industrial Applications
Xylose isomerase (XI), also known as glucose isomerase, is an aldose isomerase that converts D-glucose to D-fructose and D-xylose to D-xylulose. This enzyme is widely used in the production of high-fructose corn syrup and bioethanol. Enhancing the efficiency of XI is critical for its use in industrial applications.
