A Direct Yaw Control Algorithm for On- and Off-Road Yaw Stability

SAE International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing, 2011
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Models for off-road vehicles, such as farm equipment and military vehicles, require an off-road tire model in order to properly understand their dynamic behavior on off-road driving surfaces.

Tail effects on yaw stability in birds

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2007
Bird tails, which are an aerodynamic surface in the horizontal plane, are treated with regard to their effects on yaw stability. Reference is made to wings of very small aspect ratio similar to the values of bird tails in order to identify features which are significant for the aerodynamic yawing moment characteristics due to sideslip. It is shown that

Yaw torque control of electric vehicle stability

2012 IEEE 6th International Conference on Information and Automation for Sustainability, 2012
The 7 degree of freedom (DOF) vehicle model and non-linear tire model were established based on the stability control of the electric vehicle with on-hub motors. Then the stability control strategy based on the yaw torque was presented. The idea sideslip angle at the center of gravity (COG) and idea yaw rate were calculated based on linear 2 DOF ...

Yaw Stability Control of Tractor Semi-Trailers

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2008
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Tractor semi-trailer stability during emergency braking and steering maneuvers has been an issue that was improved through implementation of Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS). Although some improvements have been achieved, the need for new control methodologies is evident from the number of accidents reported by ...

Vehicle yaw stability control and its integration with roll stability control

2008 Chinese Control and Decision Conference, 2008
The paper presents a vehicle yaw stability control (YSC) strategy devoted to prevent vehicles from spinning and drifting out. With yaw stability control system, counter braking was applied at individual wheels as needed until steering control and vehicle stability were regained. However, YSC system may not react properly to, or even deteriorate many on-

THE YAW STABILITY OF LOG HAULING COMBINATION TRUCKS

Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, 1993
A planar mathematical model for various design configurations of tractor-jeep-pole trailer combinations, incorporating a sliding drawbar, is developed. A kinematic and dynamic analysis for this vehicle combination is then carried out and a computer simulation model is developed.

Influence of Yaw Cards on the Yaw Growth of Spin-Stabilized Projectiles

Journal of Aircraft, 2001
A simple extension of the standard linear theory, describing the free-flight motion of a projectile, now includes the influences due to the projectile impacting yaw cards. The card impacts are modeled as ideal delta function impulses that are shown to alter the usual yawing motion of a spin-stabilized projectile passing through a yaw card range.

Method for Improved Yaw Stabilization Control by Integration of a Direct Yaw Control AWD System with a Vehicle Stability Assist Controller

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2008
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In order to advance vehicle stability control strategies and provide enhanced customer benefits, a methodology for combining the capabilities of an active driveline system capable of direct yaw control with a vehicle stability assist controller (also referred to as ESC, electronic stability control) has been ...

Yaw Axis Stability Augmentation System Flight Test Report

1974
Abstract : The report describes the design and flight tests of a hydrofluidic yaw stability augmentation system (SAS) for an OH-58A helicopter. The design objective was to improve stability characteristics in yaw for all flight conditions from hover to 120 kn. The yaw SAS, which initially featured only high-passed yaw rate feedback, was installed in an

Yaw/Roll Stability Modeling and Control of HeavyTractor-SemiTrailer

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper sets up a simplified dynamic model for simulating the yaw/roll stability of heavy tractor-semitrailer using Matlab/Simulink. A linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based on partial-state feedback controller is used to optimize the roll stability of the vehicle.
