Yellow Mombin (Spondias mombin L.) Seeds from Agro-Industrial Waste as a Novel Adsorbent for Removal of Hexavalent Chromium from Aqueous Solutions

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2021
The objective of this study was to develop a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent from agro-industrial waste for the removal of hexavalent chromium in the aqueous medium. The adsorbent (BMC) produced from yellow mombin (Spondias mombin L.) seeds was characterized by the determination of the chemical composition, thermal analysis (thermogravimetric (TG ...

Neoscytalidium dimidiatum Associated With Canker Disease in Spondias mombin L. in Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Phytopathology, Volume 174, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT In 2023, Cajá trees (Spondias mombin) exhibiting symptoms of canker and resinosis were collected from a commercial plantation in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. Affected plants displayed small, irregular cankers on the trunks and branches, accompanied by abundant resin exudation, which coalesced into extensive necrotic lesions.

Strong genetic differentiation but limited niche partitioning in a sympatric species pair separated by an allochronic reproductive barrier

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 2, April‐June 2026.
Sympatric sister species demonstrate substantial geographic and host overlap, with ecological analyses only finding subtle microecological variation in habitat use. Molecular analyses reveal clear genetic differentiation with no evidence of hybridization, suggesting strong reproductive isolation between species. Differences in time‐of‐day mating appear

Rapid Green Synthesis of Pomelo Peel Extract–Mediated Silver Nanoparticles for Efficient Antibacterial Performance

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit distinctive electrical, optical, and thermal properties enabling diverse applications, but their utility is limited by their tendency to aggregate. Pomelo peel extract (PPE), rich in flavonoids and ascorbic acid, was utilized as a dual reducing and stabilizing agent for the rapid green synthesis of AgNPs.
