Yolk Pigments of the Mexican Leaf Frog
Science, 1983Eggs of the Mexican leaf frog contain blue and yellow pigments identified as biliverdin and lutein, respectively. Both pigments are bound to proteins that occur in crystalline form in the yolk platelet. The major blue pigment is biliverdin IXα. The eggs vary in color from brilliant blue to pale yellow-green depending on the amount of each pigment ...

REFLECTANCE COLORIMETRIC EVALUATION OF EGG YOLK PIGMENTATION
Journal of Food Science, 1974Moderately pigmented yolks were diluted with pigment‐free yolks to provide a wide range of samples with which to compare standard beta carotene equivalents with excitation purity and luminous reflectance values obtained with a reflectance calorimeter.

Pigmentation of egg yolks with avorophyll
British Poultry Science, 1988Abstract 1. Avorophyll, a product derived from the petals of marigold (Tagetes erecta), was tested for its pigmenting ability in a layers diet in added quantities of 0, 102, 159, 250, 364, 523 and 750 mg/kg. 2. Food intake, egg production and egg weight were measured. Yolk colours were compared with the Hoffman‐La Roche yolk colour fan by a panel of 10

A Review of Factors Influencing Pigmentation of Egg Yolks
World's Poultry Science Journal, 1984Consumers prefer eggs with yolk colours ranging from golden-yellow to orange. There is a distinct aversion to pale, orange-red and off-coloured yolks. The desired yolk colours are achieved by the in...

Utilisation of bacterial (Rubrivivax gelatinosus) biomass for egg yolk pigmentation
Animal Production Science, 2009The effects of Rubrivivax gelatinosus biomass inclusion in diets of Dekalb White laying hens were assessed. The traits studied were yolk colour, consumer preference and hepatic and renal function. Broken-line regression was used to assess the biomass requirements for yolk colour attributes.

Effects of Sunlight Illumination of Marigold Flower Meals on Egg Yolk Pigmentation
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1998The effect of sunlight illumination of marigold flower meal on the pigmentation of feed for laying hens and of their resulting egg yolks was evaluated by high-performance liquid chromatography and by subjective and light reflectance colorimetry techniques.

Evaluation of beta‐apo‐8'‐garotenal as an egg yolk pigmenter
British Poultry Science, 1971Synopsis Beta‐apo‐8'‐carotenal has been shown to be an effective egg yolk pigmenter when fed singly or in combination with dehydrated alfalfa and yellow corn. More effective pigmentation appeared to have been obtained with the lower levels of the β‐apo‐8'‐carotenal supplemented to diets containing dehydrated alfalfa and yellow corn. The compound can be

Absence of effects of dietary α‐tocopherol on egg yolk pigmentation
British Poultry Science, 1992Abstract 1. Three experiments were carried out in which yolk colour and carotenoid content were measured in hens fed diets containing soyabean oil or tallow and supplemented with 0, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 or 320 mg tocopheryl acetate. 2. Fat type had no consistent effect on yolk carotenoid content but yolk α‐tocopherol concentrations were lower with the ...

IDENTIFICATION OF PIGMENTS OF THE EGG YOLK FROM PHILIPPINE‐BRED DUCKS
Journal of Food Science, 1976ABSTRACT Carotenoid composition of the egg yolk of duck ( Anus bochas ) raised in the Philippines was investigated in order to characterize the pigments responsible for its desirable orange color.
