A comprehensive embryonic staging series of the turtle Trachemys scripta

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Turtles hold a unique place in vertebrate evolutionary history, making them critical assets in embryology research. Yet, they remain understudied as potential model organisms in the field. Here, to support experimental manipulations with turtle embryos, we have created a complete normal table of development for comprehensive ...

Development of a Zebrafish Embryo‐Based Test System for Thyroid Hormone System Disruption: 3Rs in Ecotoxicological Research

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract There is increasing concern regarding pollutants disrupting the vertebrate thyroid hormone (TH) system, which is crucial for development. Thus, identification of TH system–disrupting chemicals (THSDCs) is an important requirement in the Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) testing framework.

Projected Warming of the Southern Ocean Disrupts Embryonic Development and Hatch Timing in Antarctic Fish

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, EarlyView.
Embryos are particularly sensitive to thermal challenge. Antarctic fish embryos raised at projected Southern Ocean temperatures hatch during the winter, have a high incidence of morphological abnormalities, have shorter body lengths, and express genes indicative of cellular stress.

Tagging Very Small Fish: Two Effective and Low Impact Methods

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Identifying individuals over time and across contexts is essential in many scientific fields. There are a variety of well‐established methods for uniquely marking individuals (e.g., visible implant elastomer, barcodes, paint). However, for some species, life history stages, and/or experiments, existing methods are not sufficient.
