The Embryonic Development of the Cotylean Polyclad Phrikoceros jannetae
ABSTRACT Polyclads exhibit distinct developmental modes ranging from direct to indirect development, with several transitional stages also recognised. The existence of an indirect developmental mode in polyclads with a planktonic life history stage in the form of a free‐swimming larva is unique among all free‐living flatworms and makes polyclads a ...

The influence of temperature on the development of Baltic Sea sprat (Sprattus sprattus) eggs and yolk sac larvae [PDF]
In spring 2004 and 2005 we performed two sets of experiments with Baltic sprat (Sprattus sprattus balticus Schneider) eggs and larvae from the Bornholm Basin simulating ten different temperature scenarios. The goal of the present study was to analyse and

Retinoic Acid Signalling Regulates Zebrafish Tooth Germ Repair Following Injury
Retinoic acid signalling may regulate the repair processes in a tooth germ injury model using Tg(scpp5:Dendra2‐NTR) zebrafish and the nitroreductase (NTR)/metronidazole (MTZ) system. ABSTRACT Although the role of retinoic acid (RA) signalling in odontogenesis is well established, its involvement in the repair of injured tooth germs remains unclear.

Changes in body composition and fatty acid profile during embryogenesis of quillback rockfish (Sebastes maliger) [PDF]
We investigated developmental changes in the body compositions and fatty acid (FA) profiles of embryos and preparturition larvae of the quillback rockfish (Sebastes maliger).

Axial muscle‐fibre orientations in larval zebrafish
In 4 days post‐fertilization zebrafish larvae, the fast axial muscle fibres follow helical trajectories that taper towards the tail. Adjacent muscle fibres form substantial angles relative to each other to accommodate this pattern. Using a novel semi‐automatic method, we quantified 3D fibre angles over the whole muscle volume.

Impact of increase in temperature and light intensity on development and metamorphosis of hatchery reared silver pompano Trachinotus blochii (Lacepede, 1801) larvae [PDF]
The largehead ribbonfish, Trichiurus lepturus Linnaeus, 1758 forms a major fishery along north-west coast of India comprising the two coastal states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Diet composition was analysed for five years (2010-2014) to understand shifts

β-Apo-8′-Carotenal as an Egg Yolk Pigmenter
Abstract β -APO-8′-carotenal has been shown to be an effective pigmenter for coloring egg yolks in vivo (Steinegger et al., 1957; Bunnell and Bauernfeind, 1958; Bauernfeind and Marusich, 1959; Marusich et al., 1960a). It has also been shown to possess vitamin A activity (Euler et al., 1938; Glover and Redfearn, 1954).

ABSTRACT The soldier crab, Mictyris guinotae, is a dominant intertidal crustacean associated with sand flats in the vicinity of the Urauchi River estuary on Iriomote Island, Japan. We compared various aspects of its reproductive biology at two sites (the river mouth and upper reach) on exposed bare sand flats 300 m and 3000 m upstream from the mouth ...
