Upregulated ZO-1 correlates with favorable survival of gastrointestinal stromal tumor
Medical Oncology, 2013Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) is a membrane-scaffolding protein that plays an important role in maintaining tight-junction integrity, which is disrupted in many invasive cancers and intestinal diseases. However, the expression of ZO-1 in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and its relationship with clinical characteristics of this disease remain poorly ...

Molecular environment of ZO‐1 in epithelial and non‐epithelial cells
Cell Motility, 1995AbstractWe previously reported the expression of ZO‐1 in cell types that do not form tight junctions. Here we compare the molecular environments of ZO‐1 in epithelial cells, primary cultures of astrocytes and in the non‐epithelial S180 sarcoma cell line. ZO‐1 co‐localizes with a subset of actin filament in all cell types.

In VivoInteraction of AF-6 with Activated Ras and ZO-1
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1999AF-6 contains two putative Ras-associating domains (RA domains) which are seen in several Ras effectors such as RalGDS and RIN1. We previously showed that an AF-6 fragment containing the amino-terminal (N-terminal) RA domain directly binds to activated Ras and ZO-1 in vitro.

ZO-1 Serum Levels as a Potential Biomarker for Psychotic Disorder
Clinical NeuropharmacologyObjective There are limited studies in the literature on the relationship between intestinal and blood-brain barrier permeability and the etiology of schizophrenia. We hypothesized that the difference in serum ZO-1 levels in patients with schizophrenia may affect the severity of the disease.

Characterization of the ZO-1 protein in endothelial and other cell lines
Journal of Cell Science, 1990ABSTRACT A high molecular weight tight junction-associated protein, ZO-1, has been demonstrated in liver (hepatocytes) and in both epithelium and endothelium. We carried out studies to examine the presence of the protein in vascular endothelial cell cultures and several other types of cultured cells, and the relationship between the ZO-1

ZO-1 and cingulin: tight junction proteins with distinct identities and localizations
American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1989The relative localization of ZO-1 and cingulin, the only two known components of the tight junction, was compared in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells, chicken small intestine, rat kidney distal convoluted tubule, and a hepatoma cell line. Immunoblot analysis demonstrated that cingulin and ZO-1 are immunologically unrelated and that, in the colon,

Rab3B Regulates ZO-1 Targeting and Actin Organization in PC12 Neuroendocrine Cells
Experimental Cell Research, 2000Rab3B is a monomeric GTPase that modulates norepinephrine secretion when expressed in PC12 neuroendocrine cells. In the present study we determined whether rab3B also regulates the organization of intercellular junctions, since this GTPase localizes to regions of cell contact in multiple cell types.

Roles of ZO-1, occludin, and actin in oxidant-induced barrier disruption
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2006Oxidants such as monochloramine (NH2Cl) decrease epithelial barrier function by disrupting perijunctional actin and possibly affecting the distribution of tight junctional proteins. These effects can, in theory, disturb cell polarization and affect critical membrane proteins by compromising molecular fence function of the tight junctions.

[Study on the involvement of ZO-1 gene in leukemogenesis].
Zhonghua xue ye xue za zhi = Zhonghua xueyexue zazhi, 2011To explore ZO-1 gene expression and methylation in leukemia cells and the involvement of ZO-1 gene in leukemogenesis.Restriction landmark genomic scanning (RLGS) was used to identify new leukemia related gene, and methylation specific PCR (MSP) for ZO-1 methylation status.
