Microbial metabolite indole‐3‐propionic acid preserves astrocytic mitochondrial mitofusin 2 to limit neuroinflammation after traumatic brain injury

Following traumatic brain injury, indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) directly targets the aryl hydrocarbon receptor on astrocytes in the peri‐lesional cortex; this suppresses interferon regulatory factor 1‐driven transcription of the E3 ubiquitin ligase RFFL (ring finger and FYVE‐like domain containing E3 ubiquitin protein ligase).

Detection of Acoustic Phonons in Carbon by Raman Spectroscopy

Acoustic phonons in graphite and diamond are detected by Raman spectroscopy through disorder‐induced relaxation of selection rules. Comparison with calculated phonon densities of states enables assignment of the observed Raman features to acoustic phonon branches.

Long‐Term Quality of Life After Removal of Batteries and Magnets From the Nose in Children

Nasal button batteries and magnets can cause severe mucosal injury, most commonly erosion (56.4%), septal perforation (20.5%), and tissue necrosis (12.8%). At long‐term follow‐up, most complications had resolved, while prolonged foreign body retention and symptoms at presentation were significantly associated with persistent complications.
