Flavivirus NS5 associates with host-cell proteins zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) and regulating synaptic membrane exocytosis-2 (RIMS2) via an internal PDZ binding mechanism

open access: yesbchm, 2009
Abstract Dengue virus (DENV) and tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) are flaviviruses, which can cause lethal hemorrhagic fever and encephalitis, respectively. Here, we demonstrate that the TBEV-NS5 and DENV-NS5 proteins use an internal binding mechanism to target human PDZ proteins.

The PDZ2 domain of zonula occludens-1 and -2 is a phosphoinositide binding domain

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2009
Zonula occludens proteins (ZO) are postsynaptic density protein-95 discs large-zonula occludens (PDZ) domain-containing proteins that play a fundamental role in the assembly of tight junctions and establishment of cell polarity.

Purification and preliminary characterization of the zonula occludens toxin receptor from human (CaCo2) and murine (IEC6) intestinal cell lines

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2001
In the present study, we report the preliminary characterization of the epithelial cell receptor for Vibrio cholerae zonula occludens toxin (Zot). Zot receptor was purified by ligand-affinity chromatography.

Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) is involved in morula to blastocyst transformation in the mouse

open access: yesDevelopmental Biology, 2008
It is unknown whether or not tight junction formation plays any role in morula to blastocyst transformation that is associated with development of polarized trophoblast cells and fluid accumulation.

Effect of hepatocyte growth factor on assembly of zonula occludens-1 protein at the plasma membrane

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1998
Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a paracrine cytokine that influences epithelial morphogenesis by modulating cell-cell adhesion and cell polarity. We have examined the role of HGF in the tight junction (TJ) formation. We followed the assembly and disassembly at the plasma membrane of the major component of the TJ, zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) protein ...

Insect cell‐derived human CD200‐Fc increases zonula occludens‐1 tight junction protein in urothelial carcinoma cells

Entomological Research, 2023
AbstractCD200 is a ligand that interacts with the CD200 receptor 1, with an anti‐inflammatory effect. CD200 inhibits the nuclear factor kappa‐light‐chain‐enhancer of activated B cells (NF‐κB) pathway, attenuating the inflammatory response and maintaining barrier function. In this study, human CD200 was fused with the fragment crystallizable (Fc) region

Effects of simulated weightlessness on tight junction protein occludin and Zonula Occluden-1 expression levels in the intestinal mucosa of rats

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology [Medical Sciences], 2011
This study investigated the tight junction (TJ) protein expression of the intestinal mucosa in a rat tail-suspension model under simulated weightlessness. Twenty-four Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: CON group (n=8), control; SUS-14 d group (n=8), tail-suspension for 14 days; SUS-21 d group (n=8), tail-suspension for 21 days ...

Increased interaction of connexin43 with zonula occludens-1 during inhibition of gap junctions by G protein-coupled receptor agonists

Cellular Signalling, 2012
Astrocytes are extensively coupled through gap junctions (GJs) that are composed of channels mostly constituted by connexin43 (Cx43). This astroglial gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) allows propagation of ions and signaling molecules critical for neuronal activity and survival.

Novel role of zonula occludens‐1: A tight junction protein closely associated with the odontoblast differentiation of human dental pulp cells

Cell Biology International, 2016
AbstractZonula occludens‐1 (ZO‐1), a tight junction protein, contributes to the maintenance of the polarity of odontoblasts and junctional complex formation in odontoblast layer during tooth development. However, expression and possible role of ZO‐1 in human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) during repair process remains unknown.

Nicotinamide dual treatment enhances morula-to-blastocyst transition through binding to Zonula Occludens-1 protein

Theriogenology
Nicotinamide (NAM) is a widely utilized compound in cell culture systems, yet its role during the morula-to-blastocyst transition remains underexplored. This study investigates the effects of NAM supplementation during both in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes and late-stage embryo culture (IVC3; the morula stage) on blastocyst development, metabolic ...
