Circular Bioeconomy of Fruits and Vegetable Waste Into Biosolvents and Bioresources: Advancement in Sustainable Bioremediation Technologies

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2025.
Fruit and vegetable waste is valorized into eco‐friendly biosolvents and bioproducts through microbial fermentation, enzymatic hydrolysis, and anaerobic digestion. This circular bioeconomy approach mitigates environmental pollution, reduces reliance on fossil‐based solvents, and supports sustainable industrial practices.

Metabolic Engineering of Bacterial Respiration: High vs. Low P/O and the Case of Zymomonas mobilis

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
Respiratory chain plays a pivotal role in the energy and redox balance of aerobic bacteria. By engineering respiration, it is possible to alter the efficiency of energy generation and intracellular redox state, and thus affect the key bioprocess ...

Mechanistic studies on glucose-fructose oxidoreductase from Zymomonas mobilis : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in biochemistry at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The reaction mechanism catalysed by glucose-fructose oxidoreductase was studied in detail by comparing the presteady kinetic results from absorbance and fluorescence experiments using the stopped-flow apparatus.

Thermotolerant class A acid phosphatase active across broad pH range and diverse substrates

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract M2‐32 is a non‐specific acid phosphatase with a rare ability to function across a broad pH range (3.5–8.5). Analysis using SWISS‐PROT Prf Profiles classifies it as a class A acid phosphatase (Z‐score: 78.97), sharing 50%–60% sequence similarity with enzymes such as PhoC and PhoN.

Shifting the Substrate Scope of an Ene/Yne‐Reductase by Loop Engineering

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 17, Issue 16, August 18, 2025.
A flexible active‐site loop that is involved in shaping the substrate and product cleft as well as the active‐site pocket was identified for the MDR‐related ene/yne‐reductase CaeEnR1 from Cyclocybe aegerita. Double mutations of this loop showed an up to 20‐fold increase in conversion rates toward cinnamaldehyde‐like substrates and a 2‐fold increase in ...

Can Metagenomic Analyses Be Used Effectively in Safe Food Production?

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
This graphical abstract illustrates the metagenomic workflow applied in food safety. It outlines the process from microbial detection in food matrices to genome‐level identification via next‐generation sequencing (NGS). The visualization emphasizes the integration of modern sequencing technologies to assess foodborne pathogens and microbial communities

Influence of ultrasound on sorbitol release by Zymomonas mobilis grown on high sucrose concentration

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2006
This work investigated the effect of applying low intensity ultrasound on sorbitol release by Z.mobilis cultures grown on 200 g/L sucrose medium up to 48 h. The best sorbitol production was 36.09 g/L in 36 h culture.
