Medicinal Pasta Alleviates Oxidative Stress and Metabolic Complications in Diabetic Rats

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Composite ratio mixture of wheat, unripe plantain and moringa flours used to produce pasta modulated lipid profile, related glucose metabolic enzymes, and antioxidant in diabetic rats. ABSTRACT Medicinal plant‐based foods from natural sources with antioxidant properties, cholesterol, blood glucose, and blood pressure reducing properties are rarely ...

Antioxidant Activity and Inhibition of Carbohydrate Hydrolyzing Enzymes by Underutilized Parts From Some Plant‐Based Foods and Their Effect on Postprandial Hyperglycemia

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
The underutilized parts viz: pawpaw seed, banana, plantain, and potato peels showed promising antioxidant and inhibition of α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase activities (IC50 values ≤ 100 μg/mL). Similarly, pawpaw seed, banana, plantain, and potato peels reduced postprandial hyperglycemia in sucrose‐ and maltose‐induced hyperglycemia in rats.

Phenolic Profiles, Antioxidant Properties and Predicted Glycaemic Index of Bread Sweetened With Date Syrup in Comparison With Granulated Sugar

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Date syrup are used as sweetener in bread. Bread with date syrup had superior phenolic composition, better antioxidant properties and carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes while bread with granulated sugar had higher predicted glyceamic index. The study concluded that date syrup could be the next though‐out ingredient for dual purpose in bread. ABSTRACT The

Isoflavone glycosides: Synthesis and evaluation as α-glucosidase inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
On the basis of the structure of 4′,7,8-trihydroxyisoflavone 7-O-α-D-arabinofuranoside (namely A-76202, 1), a Rhodococcus metabolite showing potent inhibitory activities against the α-glucosidases of rat liver microsome (IC 50 = 0.46 ng/mL), 26 analogs ...

Functional Bread From Bambara Groundnut and Orange Peel Attenuates Hyperglycemia and Oxidative Stress in a High‐Fat Diet/Streptozotocin‐Induced Type 2 Diabetes Rat Model

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
This study evaluated Bambara groundnut–wheat composite bread fortified with orange peel in diabetic rats. Diets significantly lowered blood glucose, inhibited α‐glucosidase and α‐amylase, and boosted antioxidant enzymes compared to controls. Results emphasize BG‐based functional foods' potential to help manage type 2 diabetes through regulation of ...

Synthesis of Sulochrin-125I and Its Binding Affinity as α-Glucosidase Inhibitor Using Radioligand Binding Assay (RBA) Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Most of diabetes patients have type 2 diabetes mellitus or non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus can be conducted by inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme which converts carbohydrates into glucose.

Effect of high frequency ultrasounds on lycopene and total phenolic concentration, antioxidant properties and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of tomato juice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tomato juice was subjected to high frequency ultrasounds(378 and 583 kHz)at increasing energy densities (up to 250 MJ/m3). Results relevant to the treatments at high frequency providing an energy density of 250 MJ/m3 were compared with those obtained at ...
