Rethinking α-RuCl3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We argue that several empirical constraints strongly restrict parameters of the effective microscopic spin model describing α-RuCl3. In particular, such constraints dictate a substantial positive off-diagonal anisotropic coupling Γ′>0, not anticipated

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Observation of the ψð3686ß decays into Σ+ Σ - ω and Σ+ Σ - φ

open access: yes, 2023
Based on (2712.4 +/- 14.3) x 106 events recorded at the psi(3686) nominal mass collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the psi(3686) -> E +/- E over bar -omega and E +/- E over bar -phi decays are observed for the first time with statistical significances of 13.8 sigma and 7.6 sigma, respectively.

On finding widest empty curved corridors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Open archive-ElsevierAn α-siphon of width w is the locus of points in the plane that are at the same distance w from a 1-corner polygonal chain C such that α is the interior angle of C. Given a set P of n points in the plane and a fixed angle α, we want

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The synergistic effect of daidzein and α-tocopherol or ascorbic acid on microsome and LDL oxidation

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2010
Isoflavone daidzein brings potential health benefits. Its antioxidant properties are considered to be responsible in part for its protective effects.

On Γ-TS-Acts Over Ternary Γ-Semigroups

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering & Technology, 2018
We generalise the notion of acts over ternary semigroups to the Γ-TS-acts for a ternary Γ-semigroup T.  Certain intrinsic notions of Γ-TS-acts are studied.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Roles of estrogen receptor-alpha in mediating life span: the hypothalamic deregulation hypothesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In several species caloric restriction (CR) extends life span. In this paper we integrate data from studies on CR and other sources to articulate the hypothalamic deregulation hypothesis by which estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-α) signaling in the ...
