Second‐Degree Atrioventricular Block With Steroid‐Induced Diabetes Mellitus in a Miniature Poodle [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science
An 8‐year‐old castrated male Miniature Poodle was referred due to polyuria, polydipsia and urinary incontinence, following 12 days of prednisolone administration (0.25 mg/kg q12h) for otitis externa.

Comparative Evaluation of Different Blood Collection Sites for the Assessment of Beta‐Hydroxybutyric Acid Concentrations Using a Handheld Meter in Sheep [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science
Hyperketonaemia is a common problem in periparturient sheep. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of FreeStyle Optium Neo H (FS) for measuring blood β‐hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) concentrations in sheep.

Beta-Hydroxybutyric Acid as a Template for the X-ray Powder Diffraction Analysis of Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules
In this paper, we report the possibility of using the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) technique to detect gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) in the form of its sodium salt in different beverages, but because it is not possible to freely buy GHB, beta ...

Using the Relationship between Concentrations of Selected Whey Proteins and BHBA to Characterize the Metabolism of Dairy Cows in Early Lactation

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
A negative energy balance alters the concentration of various fractions of cows’ milk. Therefore, by analyzing the concentration of individual proteins in milk, it is possible to indirectly monitor the health of the animal.

Poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1989
Poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB) was extracted from various species of staphylococci isolated from different sources. IR and UV spectrophotometry and NMR analysis revealed that the compound consisted only of the β-hydroxybutyrate. The PHB level in the richest strain among investigated staphylococci is about 64-fold less than in bacilli.

Highly Diastereoselective Construction of Carbon– Heteroatom Quaternary Stereogenic Centers in the Synthesis of Analogs of Bioactive Compounds: From Monofluorinated Epoxyalkylphosphonates to α-Fluoro-, β-, or γ-Amino Alcohol Derivatives of Alkylphosphonates

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
The synthesis of the stable surrogates of an important amino acid (R)-4-amino-3-hydroxybutyric acid (GABOB) such as substituted hydroxy aminophosphonic acids bearing a quaternary stereogenic center is presented.

Ultrastructural and chemical assessment of poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid in the marine cyanobacteriumTrichodesmium thiebautii [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
We report here on the occurrence and quantities of poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB) in natural populations of the marine cyanobacterium Trichodesmium thiebautii. A diurnal variation in the shape and size of PHB granules and in PHB content was observed.

Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate production by lactic acid bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1998
Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate was determined in lactic acid bacteria belonging to the genera Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Pediococcus and Streptococcus. Lactobacilli were grown in MRS broth, the others were grown in Elliker broth medium. Cell biomass was obtained by centrifugation. The cell walls were lysed with sodium hypochlorite.

Transition cow clusters with distinctive antioxidant ability and their relation to performance and metabolic status in early lactation

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2023
: Metabolic and oxidative stress have been characterized as risk factors during the transition period from pregnancy to lactation. Although mutual relations between both types of stress have been suggested, they rarely have been studied concomitantly ...
