A general reaction mechanism for carbapenem hydrolysis by mononuclear and binuclear metallo-β-lactamases

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae threaten human health, since carbapenems are last resort drugs for infections by such organisms. Metallo-β-lactamases (MβLs) are the main mechanism of resistance against carbapenems.

Modifying Antibiotic Activity of Synthetic Thiadiazine Analogs Against MDR Bacteria and ADMET Analysis

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The study demonstrated that thidiazine compounds potentiated the action of antibiotics. The compounds associated with norfloxacin against S. aureus showed greater significance in relation to the other medications. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has led to the selection of resistant bacterial strains, significantly reducing the effectiveness of ...

The Importance of Extended-Spectrum β-lactamases in Gram-Negative Enteric Bacilli and the Phenotypic Methods of detection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, 2016
The production of β-lactamase enzymes is the main mechanism of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics in gramnegative bacilli. Therefore, it is important to identify the β-lactamases-producing bacteria for the treatment of caused infections.

Human metallo-β-lactamase enzymes degrade penicillin

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Nonribosomal peptides are assemblages, including antibiotics, of canonical amino acids and other molecules. β-lactam antibiotics act on bacterial cell walls and can be cleaved by β-lactamases.

Assessing the occurrence and transfer dynamics of ESBL/pAmpC-producing Escherichia coli across the broiler production pyramid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Extended-spectrum \u3b2-lactamase (ESBL)- and plasmid mediated AmpC-type cephalosporinase (pAmpC)-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL/pAmpC E. coli) in food-producing animals is a major public health concern.

Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles From Spirulina platensis: Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Evaluation With Molecular Docking Studies

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Algal‐extract‐derived ZnO nanoparticles show shape anisotropy and are bio capped by phytochemicals. These green‐synthesized NPs strongly inhibit S. aureus and K. pneumoniae biofilms. Molecular docking suggests stable binding of surface biomolecules to microbial targets, highlighting synergistic antibacterial mechanisms.

Tackling the Antibiotic Resistance Caused by Class A β-Lactamases through the Use of β-Lactamase Inhibitory Protein

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
β-Lactams are the most widely used and effective antibiotics for the treatment of infectious diseases. Unfortunately, bacteria have developed several mechanisms to combat these therapeutic agents.

Interfacial Chemistry‐Tailored Silica&Metal‐Based Heterostructures: from Rational Design to Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review explores how interfacial engineering of silica&metal‐based nanohybrids enables precise architectural control, leveraging the structural and functional contributions of silica to overcome the inherent limitations of meta‐based materials. The antibacterial performance of these nanohybrids including membrane disruption, stimuli‐responsive ...

Prevalence of Types TEM, SHV and CTX-M /3LES Among Pathogens of Chronic Pyelonephritis

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
There Is lately observed an increase in the resistance of the main pathogens of urologie infection to β-lactam antibiotics due to production of plasmid-induced в-lactamases. The aim of the study was to reveal types TEM, SHV and CTX-M plasmid β-lactamases
