SUMOylation: novel neuroprotective approach for Alzheimer's disease? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized in the brain by the formation of amyloid-beta (Aβ)-containing plaques and neurofibrillary tangles containing the microtubule-associated protein tau.

Divergent Roles of mGlu2 and mGlu3 Receptors in Amyloid‐β Production and Cognitive Dysfunctions in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the opposing effects of the mGluR2 and mGluR3 receptors on amyloid precursor protein processing. mGluR2 promotes amyloidogenic cleavage, while mGluR3 favors non‐amyloidogenic pathways. Using a brain‐penetrant nanobody as a mGluR2 positive allosteric modulator, the study uncovers how its chronic activation aggravates amyloid‐β burden

A novel Aβ isoform pattern in CSF reflects γ-secretase inhibition in Alzheimer disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
: INTRODUCTION: LY450139 (semagacestat) inhibits gamma-secretase, a key enzyme for generation of amyloid beta (Abeta), the peptide deposited in plaques in Alzheimer disease (AD).

Transcriptomic validation of a 7,12 Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)‐induced leukemia rat model: Parallels with human leukemogenesis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
7,12‐Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) could induce leukemia and other types of cancers in rat models. Transcriptomics revealed gene expression profile that parallels with human leukemia. DMBA‐induced differential gene expression could validate the developed rat model.

Bioassays guided isolation of berberine from Berberis lycium and its neuroprotective role in aluminium chloride induced rat model of Alzheimer's disease combined with insilico molecular docking.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
ObjectiveBerberis lycium is an indigenous plant of Pakistan that is known for its medicinal properties. In the current study, we investigated the anti-Alzheimer's effect of berberine isolated from Berberis lycium.MethodsRoot extract of B.

Further Analyses of the Safety of Verubecestat in the Phase 3 EPOCH Trial of Mild-To-Moderate Alzheimer’s Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Verubecestat, a BACE1 inhibitor that reduces Aβ levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of humans, was not effective in a phase 3 trial (EPOCH) of mild-to-moderate AD and was associated with adverse events.

AKT, ATR, and Notch Inhibitors Radiosensitize a Preclinical Model of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and lethal type of head and neck cancer. Standard therapy involves surgery followed by radiation therapy. The majority of ACC has MYB overexpression and MYB‐NFIB gene fusions, while Notch mutations are associated with aggressive behavior.

Somatic cell reprogramming for Parkinson's disease treatment

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 59-73, Spring 2025.
The fundamental purpose of cell reprogramming to treat Parkinson's disease is to generate dopaminergic neurons (DAN) and do transplantation. There are two ways to accomplish this. One method is to induce cells into induced DA neurons (iDAN) directly or to induce cells into induced pluripotent stem cells and ultimately into iDAN in vitro. Another option

Mutant SOD1 Increases APP Expression and Phosphorylation in Cellular and Animal Models of ALS. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease and it is the most common adult onset neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor neurons. There is currently no effective treatment for ALS and our understanding of the pathological
