Improvements for better scaling of locally managed marine areas

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 5, October 2025.
Abstract To protect and restore ecosystems at the speed and scale required to meet current environmental challenges, a greater understanding of how conservation initiatives spread from existing to new adopters is required. According to the diffusion of innovation theory, positive adopter‐to‐peer communication is a powerful driver of innovation spread ...

open access: yesZhongguo shiyan zhenduanxue, 2017

Spatial Phylogenetic Analysis of Chinese Lizards: Insights Into Ecological Drivers and Conservation Gaps

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 430-441, September 2025.
Our study identifies southern China, including mountainous regions and islands, as key areas rich in phylogenetic diversity, and phylogenetic endemism of lizards that are currently under‐protected. Current protected areas however do not adequately cover regions that are critical for preserving the evolutionary history of lizards.

Contrasting Patterns of Phyllosphere Fungal Diversity Between Angiosperms and Gymnosperms Along a Subalpine‐Elevation Gradient

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 476-490, September 2025.
The leaf functional traits of angiosperms and gymnosperms in mountain ecosystems significantly influence phyllosphere fungal diversity. These traits are critical for understanding fungal stress resistance and elevational adaptation, which aids in predicting plant responses to climate change.

Pre‐Monsoon Habitat Preference and Spatial Overlap Between Blue Sheep (Pseudois nayaur) and Livestock in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Nepal

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 73-83, June 2025.
Blue sheep in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve prefer alpine grasslands at 3800–4200 m on south‐facing slopes near water resources, favoring areas with low tree cover and dense ground cover, particularly rhododendrons, junipers, and Cyperaceae grasses. Their habitat significantly overlaps with livestock.

Integrating local ecological knowledge into systematic conservation planning for seahorse conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Successful long‐term conservation relies on strategic planning for pragmatic actions to mitigate threats. Prioritizing actions and areas to support conservation goals in the most cost‐effective scenario becomes crucial in resource‐limited environments. However, planning and management can be challenging in data‐limited contexts.

China's Eco‐Civilisation, Climate Leviathan, and Hobbesian Energy Transition

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 830-861, May 2025.
Abstract Scholars have hitherto tended to theorise China's ecological civilisation project either as a form of environmental authoritarianism or as a vision of eco‐socialism. This paper contributes to the conversation by conducting a textual analysis of Chinese scholarly discussions on eco‐civilisation.

Uncovering Xi Jinping's Policy Agenda: Text As Data Approach

open access: yesThe Developing Economies, Volume 63, Issue 1, Page 9-46, March 2025.
How many agendas has Xi Jinping put forth and promoted since taking office in 2012, and what are the types of agendas? How much of political attention has each agenda received, and how has the allocation of attention changed over time? We utilize a dataset of presidential statements, speeches, and reports from 2012 to 2022 and employed automated text ...

A practical approach to meeting national obligations for sustainable trade under CITES

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 5, October 2024.
Abstract Reconciling conservation goals with sustainable resource use requires adaptive management strategies. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulates global trade for species listed on Appendix II, partly by requiring member countries (parties) to ensure exports do not damage wild ...
