Comparative Study of the Effects of Two Dietary Sources of Vitamin D on the Bone Metabolism, Welfare and Birth Progress of Sows Fed Protein- and Phosphorus-Reduced Diets

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
To investigate the influence of two dietary sources of vitamin D on the vitamin D status, bone metabolism, welfare and birth progress of gestating and lactating sows, forty-nine multiparous sows were randomly assigned to one of two diets: “CON” (n = 25 ...

Serum-25-hydroxycholecalciferol levels in children and adolescents

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 1987
This study was carried out to determine the relation between the nutritional status and serum-25-hydroxycholecalciferol levels in school age children. In Group I, whose diet mainly consisted of vegetable source foods, vitamin D deficiency was recorded as 15.9 percent while in Group I, whose nutrition was more balanced, this figure was 5 percent.

25-Hydroxycholecalciferol in Poultry Nutrition

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1995
Vitamin D is a complex of secosteroids that must undergo metabolic alterations to reach optimal biological activity. The parent compounds 1) ergocalciferol (D2) and 2) cholecalciferol (D3) can be synthesized in the leaves of many plants or in the skin of most animals, respectively.
