Enzymatic esterification of 3-hydroxybutyric acid
Biotechnology Letters, 1993Candida cylindracea lipase catalysed esterification of (±)-3-hydroxybutyric acid (1) with n-butanol was studied in different solvents. This provided an alternative preparative method for the versatile chiron. butyl (S)-3-hydroxybutyrate (2) via kinetic resolution of (±)-1 With toluene as the reaction medium, the enantioselection was found to be ...

Hypothalamic neuronal activity responses to 3-hydroxybutyric acid, an endogenous organic acid
Brain Research, 1990To elucidate the anorectic action of the endogenous organic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid (3-HBA), its effects on neurons in both the rat ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMH) and the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) were examined. Iontophoretic application of 3-HBA significantly facilitated the firing rate of VMH neurons, whereas facilitation and ...

Catalyst-free valorization of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate to crotonic acid
Reaction Chemistry & Engineering, 2021A novel catalyst-free valorization process of PHB to CA in inert nonpolar solvents is developed. CA was obtained with a yield of 89 wt% and a purity of 91% via a simple consecutive process of pyrolysis at 210 °C and vacuum distillation at 60 °C.

Accumulation of Poly (3-Hydroxybutyric Acid) by Some Soil Streptomyces
Current Microbiology, 1999In a limited-scale survey, 55 soil streptomycetes were screened for the accumulation of poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) [PHB]. Only 18% of the isolates accumulated PHB ranging between 1.9-7.8% of the dry biomass. The promising isolate DBCC-719, identified as Streptomyces griseorubiginosus, accumulated PHB amounting to 9.5% of the mycelial dry mass in the ...

Journal of Microencapsulation, 1995
Microcapsules of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) [PHB] and its copolymers with hydroxyvalerate [HV] were prepared by the solvent evaporation technique and loaded with a model drug, 2,7-dichlorofluorescein. Microcapsules were also prepared from the same polymers by incorporating a polyphosphate-Ca+2 complex into the membrane.

Omega oxidation of fatty acids and the pathway of 3-hydroxybutyric acid formation
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1978Abstract Pathways followed by the carbons of long chain fatty acids in their conversion to 3-hydroxybutyric acid were traced and the contribution of ω-oxidation to fatty acid oxidation was determined in the cellular environment where ketone body formation occurs.
