Early Dapagliflozin and Melatonin Treatment Ameliorated LV Fibrosis via Suppressing TGF‐β1/Smads and Activating Nrf2‐ARE Signaling in MI Rodent

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study tested whether combined dapagliflozin (DAPA) and melatonin (Mel) therapy was superior to merely one for ameliorating the left ventricular (LV) fibrosis/remodeling and improving LV ejection fraction (LVEF) in rats after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In vitro study demonstrated that DAPA treatment significantly suppressed the TGF‐

Invariant varieties of periodic points for some higher dimensional integrable maps

open access: yes, 2006
By studying various rational integrable maps on $\mathbf{\hat C}^d$ with $p$ invariants, we show that periodic points form an invariant variety of dimension $\ge p$ for each period, in contrast to the case of nonintegrable maps in which they are isolated.

A framework for the ethical use of animal‐borne devices in post‐release monitoring following rehabilitation

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Rehabilitation and release contribute to conservation efforts for threatened species. Ensuring that these efforts are effective requires a good understanding of the factors which determine survival and integration of released animals into wild populations.

Automatic Detection of Egg Shell Cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The challenge was to find a reliable, non-intrusive means of detecting cracks in eggs. Intensity data from eggs were collected by VisionSmart for the group to analyse. Given the short time period three main questions were addressed. 1) Is there a feature

Modulated X-ray Emissivity near the Stress Edge in Sgr A*

open access: yes, 2008
Sgr A* is thought to be the radiative manifestation of a ~3.6E6 Msun supermassive black hole at the Galactic center. Its mm/sub-mm spectrum and its flare emission at IR and X-ray wavelengths may be produced within the inner ten Schwarzschild radii of a ...

Insights from the Presidential Addresses to the Agricultural Economics Society

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Society's published presidential addresses have embraced a wide range of subject matter, reflecting a ‘road well travelled’ in agricultural economics. The areas covered include the development and use of data and statistics, lessons from history, sectoral analysis, land economics, international trade and international development.

Insights into bone and cartilage responses to pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation: a review with quantitative comparisons

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Bone fractures and cartilage pathologies represent a heavy socioeconomic burden for the national healthcare systems worldwide. Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) stimulation has become a widely recognized treatment for enhancing bone fracture healing ...

Improvement of Mouse Spermatozoa Freezing at ‐80°C With Ascorbic Acid 2‐Glucoside at Thawing Phase

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sperm cryopreservation is the most common method to maintain a great number of mutant mouse lines. However, the use of liquid nitrogen (LN2) for freezing presents considerable problems in terms of cost, safety, and accessibility. For this reason, the storage of semen samples at ‐80° in ultra‐freezers has been increasingly used in ...

Minocycline and bone marrow–derived mononuclear cells as potential therapeutics for hereditary retinal degenerations

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To assess in Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rats if the combination of two previously documented neuroprotective strategies: minocycline administration and bone marrow–derived mononuclear cells (BM‐MNCs) intravitreal transplantation, offers enhanced neuroprotection compared with each treatment alone.
