New Pathway of Conversion of Pyridoxal to 4-Pyridoxic Acid
Enzyme, 2017The only enzyme demonstrated so far to catalyze the formation of 4-pyridoxic acid, the final excretory product of vitamin B(6), was aldehyde oxidase. In this paper we have presented an evidence that another enzyme, NAD^+-dependent aldehyde dehydrogenase, is capable of catalyzing this reaction. Rat mutants with high, low and no aldehyde oxidase activity

Regarding 4-pyridoxic acid-5′-phosphate in animal tissue
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1972Abstract To test recent claims that 4-pyridoxic acid-5′-phosphate (PICP) is a previously undetected, major metabolite of vitamin B 6 in animals (up to 20% of the total vitamin B 6 in liver), we analyzed mouse and rat liver for vitamin B 6 metabolites after injection of 3 H-pyridoxine.

Topology of 4-Pyridoxic acid dehydrogenase in transformed Escherichia coli cells
Journal of Biochemistry, 2009The topology of 4-pyridoxic acid dehydrogenase in the Escherichia coli cell membrane was examined with transformed E. coli cells overexpressing the enzyme from Mesorhizobium loti. The recombinant enzymes with a His(6)-tag either in the N-terminal region or at the C-terminus were localized on the E. coli cell membrane like the wild-type enzyme without a

Spectroscopic Properties of 4‐Pyridoxic Acid as a Function of pH and Solvent
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 2004AbstractThe photophysical properties and acid/base equilibria of 4‐pyridoxic acid (=3‐hydroxy‐5‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐methylpyridine‐4‐carboxylic acid), the final product of the catabolism of vitamin B6, have been studied in aqueous solutions. The ground state of 4‐pyridoxic acid exhibits the different protonated forms A–D in the range of H0=−6 to pH 11.5.

Determination of urinary 4-pyridoxic acid using high performance liquid chromatography
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1979A high performance liquid chromatographic method is presented for the determination of the vitamin B6 metabolite, 4-pyridoxic acid, in urine. Urine samples are treated with trichloroacetic acid to precipitate protein. An aliquot of the supernatant is chromatographed using 0.033 M phosphate buffer containing 5% (v/v) methanol (pH 2.2), a fluorometric ...

Vitamin B6 intakes and 24-hr 4-pyridoxic acid excretions of children
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1977Vitamin B6 intake and 4-pyridoxic acid excretions of 22 children were determined. Mean intake of vitamin B6 per day was 1.10 mg +/- 0.47. Mean percentage of vitamin B6 intake excreted as 4-pyridoxic acid was 48% +/- 23. Excretion of 4-pyridoxic acid was significantly correlated to vitamin B6 intake but not to vitamin B6/protein ratios or vitamin B6 ...

Plasma B6 vitamer and 4-pyridoxic acid concentrations of men fed controlled diets
Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1988A rapid and sensitive procedure is described for the analysis of all the B6 vitamers and 4-pyridoxic acid in human plasma utilizing reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet and fluorometric detection. Pyridoxal phosphate values obtained by radiometric and chromatographic, ultraviolet and fluorometric, assays were highly ...

An analytical protocol has been developed for the analysis of urinary 4-pyridoxic acid (4-PA) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for use in metabolic studies. Aliquots of urine were deproteinised and fractionated by isocratic reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.

Excretion of 4-pyridoxic acid and oxalic acid in patients with urinary calculi.
Investigative urology, 1977Urinary excretion of 4-pyridoxic acid and oxalic acid was investigated in 75 patients with urinary calculi and in 50 normal subjects on regular diet. Mean excretion of 4-pyridoxic acid was 0.85 and 0.90 mg per day, respectively, and mean excretion of oxalic acid was 27.5 and 28.0 mg per day, respectively.
