Unraveling the active site cover of coproheme decarboxylase from Listeria monocytogenes

During heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria, coproheme decarboxylase (ChdC) catalyzes the conversion of four‐propionate substrate coproheme to the two propionate product heme b. Its active site is universally covered by a flexible linking loop. This study identifies an important histidine residue, which stabilizes the loop in a ChdC homolog.

Simulated daylight versus conventional PDT for mild to moderate actinic keratoses: A randomized controlled trial

Beef liver 5‐aminolevulinate dehydratase was purified 700‐fold by salt fractionation, heat treatment, gel filtration and ion‐exchange chromatography. The final product was homogeneous by electrophoretic, ultracentrifugal and immunological criteria and had a molecular weight, by the low‐speed equilibrium method, of 260000.

Divergent roles of ent‐kaurene oxidase paralogs in rice momilactone biosynthesis

Rice contains a five‐gene tandem array of genes encoding members of the ent‐kaurene oxidase (KO) family, with OsKOL4 and OsKOL5 playing divergent roles in momilactone metabolism, but both acting in the production of antifungal and antibacterial phytoalexins, which are important for disease resistance.
