Bisulfite-Free, Nanoscale Analysis of 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine at Single Base Resolution.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2018
High-resolution detection of genome-wide 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) sites of small-scale samples remains challenging. Here, we present hmC-CATCH, a bisulfite-free, base-resolution method for the genome-wide detection of 5hmC.

5-Hydroxymethylcytosine: A stable or transient DNA modification?

open access: yesGenomics, 2014
The DNA base 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) is produced by enzymatic oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) by 5mC oxidases (the Tet proteins). Since 5hmC is recognized poorly by DNA methyltransferases, DNA methylation may be lost at 5hmC sites during DNA replication.

Ten-eleven Translocation-2 Regulates DNA Hydroxymethylation Status and Psoriasiform Dermatitis Progression in Mice

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2018
Epigenetics plays an important role in the development and progression of many diseases. There is increasing evidence for the importance of epigenetic modifications in the progression of psoriasis.

5'-Methylcytosine and 5'-hydroxymethylcytosine each provide epigenetic information to the mouse zygote.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Covalent modification of cytosine nucleotides within the genome encode essential epigenetic information, with methylation (5meC) and hydroxymethylation (5hmC) having received most attention.

Is 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine a Suppressor or Activator in Epigenetic Marks? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
poster abstractAlcohol has been observed to have teratogenic effects on humans and mice during different stages of embryonic development. These effects can be condensed under fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), exhibiting a variety of signs from ...

Comprehensive mapping of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine epigenetic dynamics in axon regeneration

open access: yesEpigenetics, 2017
In contrast to central nervous system neurons, dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons can switch to a regenerative state after peripheral axotomy. In a screen for chromatin regulators of the regenerative responses in this conditioning lesion paradigm, we ...

Comparative analysis of affinity-based 5-hydroxymethylation enrichment techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The epigenetic modification of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) is receiving great attention due to its potential role in DNA methylation reprogramming and as a cell state identifier.

Early-life stress links 5-hydroxymethylcytosine to anxiety-related behaviors

open access: yesEpigenetics, 2017
Environmental stress contributes to the development of psychiatric disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder and anxiety. While even acute stress alters gene expression, the molecular mechanisms underlying these changes remain largely unknown. 5-

Hydroxymethylation of DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
DNA methylation, an epigenetic mechanism is claimed to play essential roles in development, aging and disease over the past few decades. Cytosines (C) were known to exist in two functional states: unmethylated or methylated (5mC) in the mammalian genome
