Primaquine in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency: an adaptive pharmacometric assessment of ascending dose regimens in healthy volunteers

open access: yeseLife
Background: Primaquine is an 8-aminoquinoline antimalarial. It is the only widely available treatment to prevent relapses of Plasmodium vivax malaria. The 8-aminoquinolines cause dose-dependent haemolysis in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency ...

Prevalence and distribution of G6PD deficiency: implication for the use of primaquine in malaria treatment in Ethiopia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundG6PD enzyme deficiency is a common enzymatic X-linked disorder. Deficiency of the G6PD enzyme can cause free radical-mediated oxidative damage to red blood cells, leading to premature haemolysis.

Tinjauan Hasil Uji Coba Pengobatan Dan Pencegahan Malaria Di Beberapa Tempat Indonesia, 1986- 1995 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In Indonesia, only antimalarials chloroquine, sulfadoxine/ sulfalene-pyrimethamine, quinine, and primaquine are available. The development of chloroquine and multidrug resistance poses a therapeutic challenge.

Optimal balance of benefit versus risk for tafenoquine in the treatment of Plasmodium vivax malaria

open access: yesMalaria Journal
A single 300 mg dose of tafenoquine (an 8-aminoquinoline), in combination with a standard 3-day course of chloroquine, is approved in several countries for the radical cure (prevention of relapse) of Plasmodium vivax malaria in patients aged ≥ 16 years ...

Metabolism of 8-aminoquinoline antimalarial agents.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 1982
Some of the most effective antimalarial agents are derivatives of 8-aminoquinoline. The metabolic products of many of these compounds appear to be toxic to the erythrocytes of certain human subjects, especially those deficient in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
