Potent monoclonal antibodies against multidrug‐resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
A novel immunization strategy using a low‐virulence, multidrug‐resistant strain yields synergistic monoclonal antibodies against hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae. These antibodies provide cross‐serotype protection through a dual‐mechanism of pathogen clearance and immunomodulation, offering a promising non‐antibiotic therapeutic for resistant ...

Human Salmonella and Concurrent Decreased Susceptibility to Quinolones and Extended-Spectrum Cephalosporins

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2007
The National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System monitors susceptibility among Enterobacteriaceae in humans in the United States. We studied isolates exhibiting decreased susceptibility to quinolones (nalidixic acid MIC >32 µg/mL or ciprofloxacin ...

Impact of COVID‐19 Pandemic on Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Common Bacterial Pathogens to Antibiotics in Northern Ghana

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
This retrospective study analyzed and compared antimicrobial resistance patterns of common bacterial pathogens before (October 2018–March 2020) and during (April 2020–December 2022) the COVID‐19 pandemic in Ghana's Northern Region. Amoxiclav (p = 0.027), ceftazidime (p = 0.002), ciprofloxacin (p = 0.001), gentamycin (p = 0.035), and meropenem (p < 0 ...

Mortality after broad‐ versus narrow‐spectrum antibiotic treatment for patients with nursing and healthcare‐associated pneumonia: A nationwide retrospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Nursing and healthcare‐associated pneumonia (NHCAP) is defined as pneumonia occurring in individuals with frequent healthcare contact, such as residents of care facilities or patients with impaired activities of daily living. The effectiveness of broad‐spectrum antibiotics in treating NHCAP remains unclear.

Fungi - an Amalgam of Toxins and Antibiotics: a Mini- Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Fungi are eukaryotes with many functions. Earlier, fungi were classified in the plant kingdom but were later classified as a separate kingdom due to their unique cell walls. Fungi are heterotrophs like animals and are more closely related to animals. The

Admission Plasma Lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate for Early Identification of Nosocomial Infection in Cirrhotic Patients With Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess whether admission plasma lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein (LBP), procalcitonin (PCT), and lactate could improve detection of nosocomial infection in cirrhotic patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB).

Targeting the Dynamic Susceptibility Window: Time‐Sensitive Photodynamic Synergy With Antibiotics Against Streptococcus spp

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Evaluated the antimicrobial efficacy of curcumin‐mediated photodynamic inactivation (PDI) against both sensitive and resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as its potential to enhance antibiotic effects (amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, erythromycin).

Glyco‐Nanogels for Modulating Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nanogels presenting α‐galactose and β‐fucose can significantly alter Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm dynamics through their interaction with lectins. Application timing is crucial: pre‐treatment reduces biofilm, while treatment after biofilm initiation increases biomass.
