Research Progress and Existing Problems for Abscopal Effect.

open access: yesCancer management and research, 2020
Radiation therapy plays a vital role in the treatment of tumours. In particular, the occurrence of the "abscopal effect" brings about a favourable turn for the treatment of patients with advanced metastatic malignant tumours. Because of the abscopal effect, non-irradiated areas are also treated.

The Prognostic Value of EDRIC and Its Association With Radiation‐Induced Lymphopenia in Patients With Esophageal Cancer Undergoing Radical Radiotherapy: A Single‐Center Chinese Study

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the estimated dose of radiation to immune cells (EDRIC) in patients with esophageal cancer receiving radical radiotherapy. We retrospectively reviewed the data of patients with esophageal cancer who underwent definitive radiotherapy at our institution.

Identification of the active portion of the CCL3 derivative reported to induce antitumor abscopal effect

open access: yes, 2018
Background and purpose: Intravenous administration of a single amino acid-substituted chemokine CCL3 derivative named eMIP elicits the abscopal effect (an effect distal to the target), after local irradiation at a tumor-bearing site.

ALDH Inhibition‐Primed Photocatalysis Disrupts Cancer Stemness Plasticity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 43, 19 October 2026.
DE‐Et converts ALDH‐mediated redox buffering into a photoredox vulnerability by coupling ALDH inhibition with red‐light‐driven catalytic NADH oxidation. This enzyme‐coupled photoredox strategy sustains mitochondrial NADH/NAD+ imbalance, induces pyroptotic tumor cell death, suppresses tumor growth in vivo, and promotes systemic antitumor immunity ...

Harnessing the nonthermal effects of ultrasound for cancer treatment: From mechanisms to applications

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Nonthermal ultrasound transforms acoustic energy into diverse therapeutic bioeffects through cavitation, mechanical stimulation, and physicochemical activation. This review discusses how acoustic parameters, biological mechanisms, and responsive materials interact to influence nonthermal ultrasound‐enabled cancer therapies. Mechanism‐guided engineering

Boron‐embedded multifunctional nanoplatform toward potential combined boron neutron capture therapy and immunomodulation in glioma

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A brain‐targeting multifunctional nanoplatform (DM&Ce6@COF‐Ang) was engineered by employing boron‐enriched APTES‐COF‐1 as both the therapeutic boron agent and the nanocarrier co‐delivery of DMXAA and Ce6. This nanoplatform achieved synergistic tumor‐specific boron delivery, real‐time pharmacokinetic monitoring, and immunomodulation.

Abscopal regression of hepatocellular carcinoma after radiotherapy for bone metastasis

open access: yes, 1998
Spontaneous regression of hepatocellular carcinoma is a rare phenomenon. Abscopal regression of tumours resulting from the effect of irradiation of a tissue on a remote non-irradiated tissue is also rare.

Interventional oncology in children: Where are we now?

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
Abstract Paediatric Interventional Oncology (IO) lags behind adult IO due to a scarcity of specific outcome data. The suboptimal way to evolve this field is relying heavily on adult experiences. The distinct tumour types prevalent in children, such as extracranial germ cell tumours, sarcomas, and neuroblastoma, differ strongly from those found in ...

Advances in Radiotherapy for Neoadjuvant Therapy of Stage III Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This review summarizes three neoadjuvant radiotherapy techniques for stage III NSCLC, highlighting SFRT's low‐toxicity dual immune‐tumor control benefits and radioimmunotherapy's superior pathological response to guide precise multimodal treatment. ABSTRACT This review aims to systematically summarize the mechanisms of action, clinical evolution, and ...
