Sulfated Polysaccharides in the Hallmarks of Metabolic Syndrome: Functions and Mechanisms

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
The SPs sources are very diverse, including various fishes, sea cucumbers, seaweeds, etc. These SPs are able to improve the glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, hormonal dysregulation, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, complications, and gut homeostasis of MetS by regulating biochemical indicators related to MetS. ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome (

Holocarboxylase Synthetase Deficiency: A Second Case Report With Neonatal Cholestatic Liver Disease

open access: yesJIMD Reports, Volume 67, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Holocarboxylase synthetase deficiency is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism characterised by life‐threatening metabolic acidosis, ketoacidosis and hyperammonaemia through reduced biotin‐dependent carboxylase activity. We report the presentation of a Polynesian neonate with severe metabolic acidosis secondary to holocarboxylase ...

Crystal structure of fatty acid thioesterase A bound by 129 fragments provides diverse development opportunities

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 151-168, January 2026.
Crystallographic fragment screening of A. thaliana FatA yielded 141 hits and along with orthogonal assays, this enables the target for rapid development of novel chemical matter to the currently available herbicides. Abstract BACKGROUND In order to alleviate the growing issue of herbicide resistance, diversification of the herbicide portfolio is ...

Poa annua becomes the first weed to evolve resistance to indaziflam applied preemergence and early‐postemergence

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 539-551, January 2026.
We report the first confirmed global case of Poa annua evolving resistance to indaziflam applied both preemergence and early‐postemergence. Resistance intensified under cool temperatures, was not reversed by metabolic inhibitors, and was often linked to multiple resistance, underscoring urgent needs for integrated weed management.

Guard cell starch and malate metabolism facilitate stomatal opening in response to low CO2

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 189-197, January 2026.
Summary Guard cells adjust turgor to regulate stomatal aperture, integrating ion transport with metabolic adjustments. The effect of reduced CO2 on stomatal movement, expected under enhanced photosynthesis, remains largely unexplored. We exposed Arabidopsis thaliana plants to low CO2 before light onset and analyzed guard cell starch turnover, malate ...
