Developing downstream processes for the purification of recombinant proteins and small molecules from Nicotiana benthamiana biomass

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Nicotiana benthamiana (Australian tobacco) has become a major host for plant‐based recombinant protein production, especially using transient expression. Once a candidate protein has been designed and produced in a suitable variety (e.g. facilitated humanized glycosylation) under reproducible conditions (e.g.

Metabolome Profiling of Yokukansan in Preventing Postoperative Delirium in Elderly Cancer Patients: A Reverse Translational Study

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, EarlyView.
Aims Postoperative delirium (PD) is a common and severe complication in older adult patients undergoing invasive cancer resections. This study explored the plasma metabolome associated with PD and evaluated the efficacy of Yokukansan (YKS), a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine, in preventing PD.

Genetic variants in the CD59 gene: An exploratory study of large genome databases

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD59 is a GPI‐anchored glycoprotein on the surface of many cell types. It inhibits the assembly of the membrane attack complex, thus preventing complement‐mediated cell lysis. Lack of a functional CD59 protein causes recurrent ischemic strokes, neuropathy, and chronic hemolysis.
