Functional implications of structural homologies between chloramphenicol acetyltransferase and dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1987
Comparisons between the amino acid sequences of the dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase (E2p) of Escherichia coli and several chloramphenicol acetyltransferases (CATs) have revealed some well-aligned homologies which may be indicative of an underlying structural homology between the catalytic (acetyltransferase) domain of E2p and CAT.

Noncoding RNAs in Host–Microbiota Interaction

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The intricate interplay between gut microbiota and the host exerts a profound impact on host biological processes and disease development. This review highlights the pivotal role of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in this interaction. Host ncRNAs regulate gene expression and microbiota composition, whereas microbial small RNAs (sRNAs) modulate host gene ...

Construction and Characterization of Novel Shuttle Expression Vectors for Actinobacillus succinogenes

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Actinobacillus succinogenes is a ruminal microorganism of biotechnological importance due to its capacity to produce succinic acid at high yields. Despite the scientific interest in this organism, molecular vehicles for the transfer and expression of genetic material are limited compared to the existing demand.

Acetylation of histones and non-histone proteins is not a mere consequence of ongoing transcription

open access: yesNature Communications
In all eukaryotes, acetylation of histone lysine residues correlates with transcription activation. Whether histone acetylation is a cause or consequence of transcription is debated.

Safety of sulfamethoxazole–trimethoprim for the treatment of bacterial infection in outpatient settings: A systematic review and meta‐analysis with active comparator disproportionality analysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Sulfamethoxazole–trimethoprim (SMX‐TMP) is a widely used antibiotic for treating bacterial infections, but its safety in adult outpatients remains understudied. This systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluated the safety profile of SMX‐TMP and identified critical research gaps.

Dysregulation of Histone Acetyltransferases and Deacetylases in Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, 2014
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide despite advances in its prevention and management. A comprehensive understanding of factors which contribute to CVD is required in order to develop more effective treatment ...

5‐Aza combined with VPA reprograms human T lineage acute leukemia Jurkat cells into B‐cell‐like cells by epigenetic activation of PAX5

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract Epigenetic regulation plays an important role in cell fate reprogramming. Here, we found that inhibitors of epigenetic modifiers, including VPA, TSA, and 5‐Aza‐2'‐deoxycytidine, can induce phenotypic transformation from Jurkat cells into B‐cell‐like cells. When Jurkat cells were treated with 5‐Aza combined with VPA, B cell and stem cell marker

A Review of the Effects of Curcumin on Histone Acetyltransferase Activity in the Prevention of Cardiac Hypertrophy

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2017
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Curcumin, a natural polyphenolic compound derived from the rhizome of turmeric, has a cardiovascular protective effects. Histone acetyltransferase (HAT) is a consequential enzyme in processes of cardiac hypertrophy (cardiomegaly)
