The pH of the skin surface and its impact on the barrier function [PDF]
The `acid mantle' of the stratum corneum seems to be important for both permeability barrier formation and cutaneous antimicrobial defense. However, the origin of the acidic pH, measurable on the skin surface, remains conjectural.

A muscle‐bone endocrine pathway in aging is revealed in which extracellular vesicles released from atrophic skeletal muscle (Aged‐SKM‐EVs) inhibit bone formation. These EVs deliver miR‐125a‐5p to osteoblasts, thereby suppressing the SIRT7‐Sp7 signaling axis and osteogenic differentiation.

Localization of nuclear actin in nuclear lipid microdomains of liver and hepatoma cells: Possible involvement of sphingomyelin metabolism [PDF]
Nuclear actin has been implicated in different nuclear functions. In this work, its localization in nuclear membrane, chromatin and nuclear lipid microdomains was investigated. The implication of sphingomyelin metabolism was studied.

ABSTRACT Lipid metabolism reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer, yet the global lipidome of cancer cells and their extracellular vesicles (EVs) remains poorly understood. Using mass spectrometry, we analyzed the lipid profiles of a panel of human cancer and non‐cancer cell lines along with their secreted EVs.

2025 Consensus Clinical Management Guidelines for Niemann‐Pick Disease Type C
ABSTRACT In 2018, the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Alliance (INPDA) and the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Registry (INPDR) developed and published comprehensive clinical management guidelines to support inclusive and standardized care pathways in Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC)—an ultra‐rare, autosomal recessive, neurovisceral lysosomal ...

ABSTRACT Acid sphingomyelinase deficiency (ASMD) is a rare debilitating lysosomal storage disease resulting in multisystemic disease manifestations, significant disease burden, and early mortality for some individuals. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with olipudase alfa (Xenpozyme) is the first disease‐specific treatment indicated for noncentral ...

Increases in sphingomyelin in response to TDP‐43 pathology in the disease‐affected motor cortex of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) brain. Abstract Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressing neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons and the presence of TAR DNA‐binding protein 43 (TDP‐43 ...
