Functional sperm assessments of African Lion Panthera leo (Mammalia: Carnivora: Felidae) in field conditions

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2019
Wild African Lion Panthera leo populations are decreasing due to inbreeding and reduced genetic variability.  Thus, the use of assisted reproduction in the species could one day become essential.

Acid Glycohydrolases in Rat Spermatocytes, Spermatids and Spermatozoa: Enzyme Activities, Biosynthesis and Immunolocalization

open access: yesBiological Procedures Online, 2001
Mammalian sperm acrosome contains several glycohydrolases thought to aid in the dispersion and digestion of vestments surrounding the egg. In this study, we have used multiple approaches to examine the origin of acrosome-associated glycohdyrdolases ...

SEQUENTIAL RELEASE OF ACROSOMAL MEMBRANES AND ACROSOMAL ENZYMES OF RAM SPERMATOZOA [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 1974
Summary. A method involving the treatment of ram spermatozoa with MgCl2 followed by Hyamine 2389 and Triton X-100 is described, which gave selective removal of the acrosomal membranes and acrosomal enzymes. The effect on the individual membranes of ram spermatozoa was evaluated by electron microscopy.

Human globozoospermia‐related genes and their role in acrosome biogenesis

open access: yes, 2023
The mammalian acrosome is a secretory vesicle attached to the sperm nucleus whose fusion with the overlying plasma membrane is required to achieve fertilization.

Review: Sperm–oocyte interactions and their implications for bull fertility, with emphasis on the ubiquitin–proteasome system

open access: yesAnimal, 2018
Fertilization is an intricate cascade of events that irreversibly alter the participating male and female gamete and ultimately lead to the union of paternal and maternal genomes in the zygote.

Atypical structure of the nuclear membrane, distribution of nuclear pores and lamin B1 in spermatozoa of patients with complete and partial globozoospermia

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics
Globozoospermia is a form of male infertility characterized by spermatozoa with spherical heads lacking acrosomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate ultrastructural and molecular defects in different types of globozoospermia.

Immunofluorescence detection of the acrosome.

open access: yes, 2015
(a) Immunofluorescence detection of the acrosome with PNA (green) was performed to illustrate and quantify the sperm acrosome abnormalities. Hoechst was used to nuclei staining (blue); bar = 20μm.

Sericin-Enriched Rabbit Semen Preservation: Implications for Short-Term Storage Quality and Fertility at 4 or 15 °C

open access: yesAnimals
The influence of sericin supplementation and chilling temperatures (4 and 15 °C) on the short-term storage quality and fertility of rabbit semen was assessed over 72 h of storage.

Distribution of p14 during sperm acrosome reaction.

open access: yes, 2013
(A) Indirect immunofluorescence of anti-p14-labeled protein in acrosome reacted fixed caprine sperm permeabilized with paraformaldehyde. Left panel indicating the fluorescent and corresponding phase contrast photographs of sperm previously capacitated ...
