Fault-tolerant formation driving mechanism designed for heterogeneous MAVs-UGVs groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A fault-tolerant method for stabilization and navigation of 3D heterogeneous formations is proposed in this paper. The presented Model Predictive Control (MPC) based approach enables to deploy compact formations of closely cooperating autonomous aerial ...

Multilayer Soft Photonic Arrays Inspired by Cephalopod Skin for High‐Density, Independent, and Multimodal Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A vertically stacked, DEA‐driven photonic array inspired by cephalopod skin, featuring highly crystalline colloidal crystal gels with vivid color, low FWHM and scalability is presented. The multilayer design removes lateral pixel interference, achieving near‐100% fill factor with fully independent RGB actuation.

Model-Independent Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Tracking Control for High-Speed Trains with Actuator Saturation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
This paper investigates the fault-tolerant tracking control problem of high-speed trains (HSTs) subject to unknown model parameters with unavailable uncertainties, unmeasurable additional disturbance, and unpredictable actuator faults constrained by ...

Backstepping Fault-Tolerant Control for Unmanned Thrust-Vectoring Aircraft Based on Sliding-Mode Observer [PDF]

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao, 2018
In this paper, a backstepping fault-tolerant control based on sliding-mode observer is proposed for the unmanned thrust-vectoring aircraft (UTVA) control. First, the UTVA model with the uncertainty, control surface damage and actuator faults is described,

Distributed fault estimation for linear systems with actuator faults

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, 2020
SummaryThis article investigates the problem of designing a distributed fault estimation observer (DFEO) for a given linear time invariant observed system with disturbances. The DFEO consists of a network of local fault estimation observers. The local observers at the network nodes are physically distributed and hence each of them has access to only ...

Adaptive 4D‐Printed Vascular Stents With Low‐Temperature‐Activated and Intelligent Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitected coronary artery stents were fabricated using a polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) composite via projection micro‐stereolithography (PµSL) 4D printing. By incorporating diethyl phthalate (DEP) as a plasticizer, the thermal transition temperature (Ttran) was modulated to about 37°C, enabling rapid and autonomous ...

Fault tolerant control for wind turbine pitch actuators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper develops a fault detection and isolation (FDI) and active fault tolerant control (FTC) of pitch actuators in wind turbines (WTs). This is accomplished combining a disturbance compensator with a controller, both of which are formulated in the ...

Geometry‐Dependent Adhesion in Transparent Monodomain Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCEs) are emerging as exciting pressure‐sensitive adhesives. We examine adhesion in chemically identical elastomer films, exploring the influence of geometry (director orientation) and phase (nematic or isotropic). We demonstrate the potential of these aligned films as transparent, tunable, broad‐temperature‐range smart ...

Observer–Based Sliding–Mode Fault–Tolerant Consistent Control for Hybrid Event–Triggered Multi–Agent Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science
An observer-based hybrid event-triggered sliding mode fault-tolerant consistent control strategy is proposed for actuator faults in nonlinear second-order leader–follower multi-agent systems.

A switched LPV observer for actuator fault estimation

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceIn this paper, an actuator fault estimation problem is tackled, based on the LPV approach. First, the actuator fault is modeled in the form of a multiplicative fault by using a constant coefficient representing the loss of ...
