Ischemic stroke and inflammatory markers: a case–control study
Background Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of disability and death among the elderly. The pathophysiology of stroke is complex, with oxidative stress and inflammation being key mechanisms underlying neuronal damage.

A brain‐targeted nanoparticle enables delivery of a therapeutic nanobody (Nb.29E9) that inhibits pathogenic GSK3β signaling. This intervention restores AMPK/mTORC1/TGFβ homeostasis, attenuates neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, and promotes long‐term functional recovery after ischemic stroke.

This study uncovers that quercetin naturally targets mitochondria. By coordinating quercetin with Fe3+, we engineer an ultrasmall cascade nanozyme (MCN) with superoxide dismutase‐catalase activities. MCN crosses the damaged blood–brain barrier, scavenges mitochondrial ROS, prevents mitochondrial DNA leakage, and blocks the cGAS‐STING pathway, thereby ...

Human neutrophils exist as two epigenetically imprinted subtypes defined by stable CD177 expression or absence — a ratio that persists across time, circadian rhythms, and inflammation. CD177− neutrophils display a distinct molecular landscape enriched in arginase 1 and lipid metabolism markers, accumulate in head‐and‐neck tumors, and associate with ...

Early outcomes of thrombolysis for acute ischaemic stroke in a South African tertiary care centre
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Stroke is an important cause of death and disability in sub-Saharan Africa. Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) thrombolysis is effective in treating acute ischaemic stroke, but may not be ...

Frailty was associated with decreased gray and white matter brain volumes in older adults. Synthetic MRI further revealed relaxometry alterations correlated with frailty severity across multiple clinical scales. ABSTRACT Objectives Frailty, a common condition in the elderly, is characterized by a decline in physiological reserves and an increased ...
