Quorum sensing negatively regulates multinucleate cell formation during intracellular growth of Burkholderia pseudomallei in macrophage-like cells. [PDF]
Burkholderia pseudomallei is a Gram-negative environmental bacterium and the causative agent of melioidosis, a potentially fatal, acute or chronic disease endemic in the tropics.

Quorum sensing systems regulate gene expression in response to bacterial population density. Acyl-homoserine lactones are a class of quorum sensing molecules found in cattle rumen that are thought to regulate the gene expression of enterohemorrhagic ...

Acylated homoserine lactones in the environment: chameleons of bioactivity [PDF]
Over the last 15 years, it has become increasingly apparent that a single class of compounds, the acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs), elicit effects on many levels of biological and ecological organization. Despite the fact that the distribution of AHL production in the prokaryotic phylogenetic tree is restricted to a small set of genera ...

We report the production and degradation of quorum sensing N-acyl-homoserine lactones by bacteria isolated from Malaysian montane forest soil. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that these isolates clustered closely to the genera of Arthrobacter, Bacillus ...

Many intercellular communication processes, known as quorum sensing (QS), are regulated by the autoinducers N-acyl-l-homoserine lactones (AHLs) in Gram-negative bacteria.

Detection of acyl-homoserine lactones by Escherichia and Salmonella [PDF]
Escherichia and Salmonella do not synthesize quorum-sensing signaling molecules of the N-acyl-l-homoserine lactone (AHL) type but they can detect AHLs produced by other species of bacteria. AHLs are present in the bovine rumen but not in the remainder of the gastrointestinal tract. Enterohemorrhagic E.

Quorum Sensing Activity in Pandoraea pnomenusa RB38
Strain RB38 was recovered from a former dumping area in Malaysia. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and genomic analysis identified strain RB-38 as Pandoraea pnomenusa. Various biosensors confirmed its quorum sensing properties.

Interkingdom signaling: Deciphering the language of acyl homoserine lactones [PDF]
Bacteria use small secreted chemicals or peptides as auto-inducers to coordinately regulate gene expression within a population in a process called quorum sensing. Quorum sensing controls several important functions in different bacterial species, including the production of virulence factors and biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and ...

In aquatic habitats, diatoms are frequently found in association with Proteobacteria, many members of which employ cell-to-cell communication via N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs).
