Biophysical and Physiological Responses promoting Freeze Tolerance in Vertebrates

open access: yes, 1994
Freeze tolerance, an overwintering adaptation of at least 10 species of ectothermic vertebrates, is promoted by integrated biophysical and physiological responses to ice forming within tissues.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Adaptation to Hysterectomy: Design and Psychometric Properties Assessment of Hysterectomy Adaptation Scale

open access: yesIranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research
Background: Adaptation to complications of hysterectomy is one of the topics of concern for women and health care providers. There is no instrument for evaluating adaptation to hysterectomy.

Adaptation in multisensory neurons

open access: yes, 2008
The most studied region in the mammalian brain for multisensory integration is the deep superior colliculus (DSC). Neurophysiological experiments have revealed many response properties of DSC neurons, such as cross-modal enhancement (CME) and sub ...

Accelerated QT adaptation following atropine-induced heart rate increase in LQT1 patients versus healthy controls : a sign of disturbed hysteresis

open access: yes, 2022
Hysteresis, a ubiquitous regulatory phenomenon, is a salient feature of the adaptation of ventricular repolarization duration to heart rate (HR) change.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Phenotyping for drought adaptation in wheat using physiological traits

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2012
Wheat (Triticum spp) is one of the first domesticated food crops. It represents the first source of calories (after rice) and an important source of proteins in developing countries.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Insect Behavior and Physiological Adaptation Mechanisms Under Starvation Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Intermittent food shortages are commonly encountered in the wild. During winter or starvation stress, mammals often choose to hibernate while insects—in the form of eggs, mature larvae, pupae, or adults opt to enter diapause.
