Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for the estimation of adefovir in human plasma: Application to a pharmacokinetic study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Analysis, 2015
An analytical method based on solid phase extraction was developed and validated for analysis of adefovir in human plasma. Adefovir-d4 was used as an internal standard and Synergi MAX RP80A (150 mm×4.6 mm, 4 µm) column provided the desired ...

An improved synthesis of adefovir and related analogues

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
An improved synthesis of the antiviral drug adefovir is presented. Problems associated with current routes to adefovir include capricious yields and a reliance on problematic reagents and solvents, such as magnesium tert-butoxide and DMF, to achieve high

Maternal nutrition as a key determinant of placental and developing blood–brain barrier xenobiotic protective functions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Suboptimal maternal nutrition alters placental and developing blood–brain barrier (BBB) protective function and is associated with increased fetal brain vulnerability. In the placenta, nutritional adversity may reduce the exchange surface area and promote meta‐inflammation, compromising barrier efficiency in a model‐ and context ...

Hypophosphatemia Due to Adefovir Treatment [PDF]

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Infection, Microbes and Antimicrobials, 2012
Adefovir dipivoxil is an orally effective prodrug excreted unchanged in urine by glomerular filtration and tubular secretion. While it effectively suppresses hepatitis B virus replication, it may cause nephrotoxicity characterized by severe ...

The Impact of Chronic Hepatitis D Virus Infection on Health‐Related Quality of Life and Fatigue: A Real‐World International Study

open access: yesJournal of Viral Hepatitis, Volume 33, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT As little is known about the disease burden of chronic hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection, this study examined health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) and fatigue at different disease stages. This was a real‐world quantitative cross‐sectional survey of patients in Germany, Italy, Spain and the USA.

Management of Antiviral Resistance in Chronic Hepatitis B

open access: yesGut and Liver, 2017
The primary goal of therapy for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is to prevent liver disease progression. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance or seroconversion is regarded as an optimal endpoint to discontinue treatment.

Effect of Late Second to Early Third Trimester of Pregnancy on the Activity of Renal Organic Anion Transporters (OAT1 and OAT3): A Biomarker Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 2, Page 465-474, August 2026.
Pregnant individuals take drugs throughout pregnancy and many of these drugs (e.g., antivirals, antibiotics) are eliminated by renal organic anion transporters (OAT) 1 and OAT3. In vivo studies with OAT1/3 substrate drugs suggest that pregnancy increases renal OAT1/3 activities by 1.5‐ to 1.8‐fold.

A Biomimetic Chitosan Derivates: Preparation, Characterization and Transdermal Enhancement Studies of N-Arginine Chitosan

open access: yesMolecules, 2011
A novel arginine-rich chitosan (CS) derivates mimicked cell penetration peptides; N-Arginine chitosan (N-Arg-CS) was prepared by two reaction methods involving activated L-arginine and the amine group on the chitosan.
