Adenosine Receptor Mechanisms Underlying Bladder Dysfunction in Male Rats With Bladder Outlet Obstruction

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, Volume 44, Issue 6, Page 1370-1377, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aims We examined the role of subtypes of adenosine receptors in bladder dysfunction and changes in the adenosine receptor expression in the bladder using male rats with partial bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). Methods In Sprague‐Dawley rats (male 8‐weeks old), BOO was produced by a partial ligation of the urethra along a metal rod of a 1.2 mm

Arginine Metabolism and Adenosine Receptor Signals in the Cerebellum Contribute to Nicotine Withdrawal‐Induced Anxiety/Depression‐Like Behaviours

open access: yesAddiction Biology, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2025.
This research indicates that enhanced purine metabolism and disrupted arginine metabolism contribute to the nicotine withdrawal‐induced anxiety and depression‐like behaviours in the cerebellum. Treatment with theobromine markedly alleviates these behaviours.

The Life of a Kidney Podocyte

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 241, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Podocytes, highly specialized epithelial cells located in the glomerulus of the kidney, are essential to the filtration barrier that ensures separation of blood and urine. These cells exhibit a unique architecture, characterized by an intricate network of foot processes interconnected by slit diaphragms, which serve as a critical selective
