Early Effects of Smoking Cessation and Weight Gain on Plasma Adiponectin Levels and Insulin Resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Tobacco smoking is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic and cardiovascular disease. Studies have found evidence that smoking cessation is associated with weight gain, which is itself a leading cause of cardiovascular disease.

Association of adiponectin gene polymorphism with adiponectin levels and risk for insulin resistance syndrome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2015
Background: Adiponectin is an abundant adipose tissue-derived protein with anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic properties. Plasma adiponectin levels are decreased in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and coronary artery disease and low ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Human epicardial adipose tissue expresses a pathogenic profile of adipocytokines in patients with cardiovascular disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Introduction: Inflammation contributes to cardiovascular disease and is exacerbated with increased adiposity, particularly omental adiposity; however, the role of epicardial fat is poorly understood.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

The level of fasting serum insulin, but not adiponectin, is associated with the prognosis of early stage hepatocellular carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Impaired glucose tolerance influences the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but this mechanism is still not fully understood. We investigated the impact of the fasting serum levels of insulin and adiponectin on the prognosis of HCC and its ...

Rheumatologic Manifestations of Patients With Type B Insulin Resistance

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objectives of this study were to identify laboratory and clinical features associated with type B insulin resistance (TBIR), a rare condition caused by autoantibodies that inhibit the insulin receptor, most frequently occurring in the setting of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to increase awareness of this rare, life‐threatening ...

Adiponectin-Secretion-Promoting Phenylethylchromones from the Agarwood of Aquilaria malaccensis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The therapeutic potential of adiponectin regulation has received interest because of its association with diverse human disease conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, and cancer. Phenylethylchromone derivatives from Aquilaria malaccensis-

A Novel Perfused Full‐Thickness Human Skin Microphysiological System for Modeling Injury, Regeneration, Tumor Pathophysiology, and Therapeutics Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
What if human skin could remain fully alive and functional outside the body for weeks? A New Alternative Method (NAM) based on a vascularized full‐thickness skin microphysiological system achieves precisely this, preserving native vasculature, resident immunity, and metabolic activity for up to three weeks, while faithfully recapitulating radiation ...

Genome-wide linkage analysis and regional fine mapping identified variants in the RYR3 gene as a novel quantitative trait locus for circulating adiponectin in Chinese population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Adiponectin is adipocyte-secreted cytokine with potent insulin-sensitizing action in peripheral tissues. The heritability of plasma adiponectin is high in Han Chinese population.
