The correlation between adiponectin with blood lipids and body mass index in women with type 2 diabetes

open access: yesIranian South Medical Journal, 2007
Background: Adiponectin, also called GBP-28, apM1, Adipo Q and Acrp30, is a novel adipose tissue-specific protein. A reduction in adiponectin expression is associated with insulin resistance in some animal models.

Thrombin-Mediated Formation of Globular Adiponectin Promotes an Increase in Adipose Tissue Mass

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
A decrease in the circulating levels of adiponectin in obesity increases the risk of metabolic complications, but the role of globular adiponectin, a truncated form produced by proteolytic cleavage, has not been defined.

Investigating interactions between epicardial adipose tissue and cardiac myocytes: what can we learn from different approaches? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Heart disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Some cardiovascular conditions can be modulated by lifestyle factors such as increased exercise or a healthier diet, but many require surgical or pharmacological ...

Alzheimer's Disease Risk Factor APOE4 Exerts Dimorphic Effects on Female Bone

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In aging bone, osteocytes accumulate neurodegenerative risk factor Apolipoprotein E (APOE). A humanized version of the Alzheimer's disease risk allele APOE4 altered the mouse bone transcriptome and proteome, with effects in female bone surpassing the brain, including bone fragility due to suppressed osteocytic maintenance of bone quality, identifying ...

Obesity and cancer: existing and new hypotheses for a causal connection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Existing explanations of obesity-associated cancer emphasise direct mutagenic effects of dietary components or hormonal imbalance. Some of these hypotheses are reviewed briefly, but recent evidence suggests a major role for chronic inflammation in cancer

Endometrial Epithelial Lactate Deficiency Drives CD8+ T‐Cells Dysregulation in Unexplained Recurrent Implantation Failure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Unexplained recurrent implantation failure (RIF) represents a significant clinical challenge. Our results demonstrate that reduced lactate production in the RIF endometrium impairs the suppression of cytotoxic CD8+ T‑cells, allowing their proliferation and thereby disrupting the local immune balance essential for successful embryo implantation.

Circulating and Adipose Tissue Adiponectin Level and Outcomes in Incident Peritoneal Dialysis PatientsPlain-Language Summary

open access: yesKidney Medicine, 2023
Rationale & Objective: Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of mortality and morbidity in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Adiponectin, a key adipokine, is related to obesity and insulin resistance.

Localization of adaptive variants in human genomes using averaged one-dependence estimation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Statistical methods for identifying adaptive mutations from population genetic data face several obstacles: assessing the significance of genomic outliers, integrating correlated measures of selection into one analytic framework, and distinguishing ...

Leptin May Promote Eosinophilic CRSwNP Progression by Enhancing Eosinophil Chemotaxis and Angiogenesis Under a Type 2 Inflammatory Milieu

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyp (CRSwNP) is a heterogeneous Type 2 inflammatory disease characterized by enhanced eosinophilic infiltration. Both innate and adaptive immunity are involved in the onset and progression of CRSwNP.

Endogenous renal adiponectin drives gluconeogenesis through enhancing pyruvate and fatty acid utilization

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Adiponectin is a secretory protein, primarily produced in adipocytes. However, low but detectable expression of adiponectin can be observed in cell types beyond adipocytes, particularly in kidney tubular cells, but its local renal role is unknown.
