Effect of periodontal treatment on adipokines in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontal disease (PD) is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), while periodontal treatment (PT) improves glycemic control in T2DM patients. Leptin and adiponectin belong to the adipokines family and have almost antagonistic functions in inflammatory processes and insulin sensitivity modulation.

Serum adiponectin levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Rheumatology, 2019
Background and Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory polyarthritis of common occurrence. Adiponectin is an adipocytokine shown to exert anti-inflammatory as well as pro-inflammatory effects.

Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease and Obesity: Pathogenesis, Diagnostics, Risk Stratification, and Therapeutic Approach

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has emerged as the most prevalent chronic liver disease worldwide, closely linked to the global rising incidence of obesity and metabolic syndrome. This review synthesizes current evidence on the pathogenesis, gut–liver axis, and multidisciplinary management of MASLD within the ...

Mediating effect of adiponectin between free fatty acid and tumor necrosis factor-α in patients with diabetes

open access: yesNutrition & Diabetes
Background/Objectives Increased free fatty acid (FFA) promotes adiponectin secretion in healthy subjects and induces inflammation in diabetes. Given the potential pro-inflammatory role of adiponectin in “adiponectin paradox”, we performed this study in ...

Adiponectin: A Predictor for Breast Cancer Survival?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Breast Health, 2019
Objective:Breast cancers in women with low serum adiponectin levels have been reported to show phenotypes that are more aggressive. In 2008, we investigated the relationship between serum adiponectin levels and breast cancer in our case-controlled study ...

The Role of Obesity in the Association Between Alcohol Consumption and HDL‐c Levels: Baependi Heart Study

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a leading cause of global mortality, with dyslipidemia playing a central role in their pathogenesis. The influence of alcohol consumption on lipid profiles, particularly high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐c), in relation to obesity status remains insufficiently explored.

Adiponectin and chronic kidney disease; a review on recent findings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nephropharmacology, 2015
Adiponectin is a multifunctional cytokine that has a role in regulating inflammation. In patients without chronic renal failure (CRF) and type 2 diabetics, decreased adiponectin levels are associated with insulin resistance.

Ferroptosis and Its Emerging Role in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

open access: yesMedicine Advances, EarlyView.
Ferroptosis contributes to the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) through iron overload, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant system disruption. These changes impair adipocyte and β‐cell function, promoting insulin resistance and hyperglycemia.

Weight Change Between Pregnancies and Mortality Over 50 Years of Follow‐Up

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to evaluate the link between postpartum weight retention (PPWR) and long‐term mortality. Methods In this secondary analysis of 8165 women with ≥ 2 pregnancies in the Collaborative Perinatal Project (CPP), U.S., 1959–1966, with vital status follow‐up through 2016, we used interconception weight change (ICWC) and ...
