Adipophilin expression in cutaneous malignant melanoma
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 2016BackgroundThe lipogenic pathway is upregulated in cancer cells, including melanomas. However, the pathological significance of cellular lipids in melanocytic lesions has yet to be determined. In this study, we evaluated intracytoplasmic lipid droplets in melanocytic nevi (MNs) and malignant melanomas via immunohistochemical analysis of adipophilin (ADP)

Adipophilin Expression Is Increased in Symptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis [PDF]
Background and Purpose— Adipophilin is an adipose differentiation–related protein expressed in lipid-containing cells. Using DNA microarray analysis, we previously found the adipophilin gene ( ADFP ) to be overexpressed in symptomatic carotid plaques (CP).

Diagnostic Utility of Adipophilin Immunostain in Periocular Carcinomas
Ophthalmology, 2014To determine the efficacy of adipophilin immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of sebaceous carcinoma of the ocular adnexal region and to provide the guidelines for interpretation of this immunostain.Retrospective, histopathologic case series.A total of 25 patients with sebaceous carcinoma, 21 patients with basal cell carcinoma, 22 patients with ...

Adipophilin Expression in Necrobiosis Lipoidica, Granuloma Annulare, and Sarcoidosis
The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 2015Necrobiosis lipoidica (NL), granuloma annulare (GA), and sarcoidosis usually are distinguished by clinical presentation and routine microscopy, but their distinction can sometimes be challenging. Historically, a clue to diagnosing NL or GA has been the identification of lipid droplets in the areas of altered collagen, but such studies have required ...

Adipophilin Is a Specific Marker of Lipid Accumulation in Diverse Cell Types and Diseases
Cell and Tissue Research, 1998We report the human DNA and protein sequence of adipophilin and its association with the surface of lipid droplets. The amino acid sequence of human adipophilin has been determined by using cDNA clones from several tissues and confirmed by the reverse transcription/polymerase chain reaction method and Edman sequencing.

Perilipin, a Potential Substitute for Adipophilin in Triglyceride Storage in Human Macrophages
Atherosclerosis, 2006Abnormal lipid deposition in human arteries leads to the formation of fatty streaks due to the accumulation of a large number of macrophage derived-foam cells. The formation and catabolism of intracellular lipid droplets is regulated by droplet-associated proteins. Among such proteins, the role of perilipin in human macrophages was unknown.

Aims Liposarcoma is a malignant soft tissue tumour with adipocytic differentiation. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) and myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) are classified as high-grade liposarcomas. Lipid droplet-associated protein (also known as perilipin 1 (PLIN1)) is the predominant perilipin and has utility as a ...

Expression of hormone receptors, adipophilin, and GCDFP‐15 in mucinous carcinoma of the skin
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 2018BackgroundPrimary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma (PCMC) is a rare epithelial tumor with unclear histogenesis.MethodsWe evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of the estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and androgen receptor (AR) in six cases of PCMC.

An association between granuloma annulare (GA) and dyslipidaemia has been reported. Adipophilin expression may play a plausible role as a cutaneous biomarker for dyslipidaemia in patients with GA; however, this potential link remains to be explored.Patients with GA were identified at our hospital between January 1, 1990, and December 31, 2021, with a ...
