Adrenarche and Fetal Growth [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1997
Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) is prenatally secreted by the fetal adrenal, is an indicator of adrenarche from late childhood onward and is a marker of the individual hormonal milieu in the adult. The regulation of DHEAS secretion is still poorly understood.

The steroid metabolome of adrenarche [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Endocrinology, 2012
Adrenarche is an endocrine developmental process whereby humans and select nonhuman primates increase adrenal output of a series of steroids, especially DHEA and DHEAS. The timing of adrenarche varies among primates, but in humans serum levels of DHEAS are seen to increase at around 6 years of age.

Molecular and Environmental Mechanisms Regulating Puberty Initiation: An Integrated Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
The mechanisms underlying the initiation of puberty, one of the cornerstones of human evolution, have not been fully elucidated as yet. However, recently, an accumulating body of evidence has helped unravel several critical aspects of the process.

DHEAS and Human Development: An Evolutionary Perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Adrenarche, the post-natal rise of DHEA and DHEAS, is unique to humans and the African Apes. Recent findings have linked DHEA in humans to the development of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (LDPFC) between the ages of 4–8 years and the right ...

Delayed pubarche

open access: yesItalian Journal of Pediatrics, 2021
In healthy adolescents, delayed pubarche is generally a benign condition that is caused by a physiological discrepancy between gonadarche and adrenarche.

SUN-073 Urine Steroid Profile of Girls with Premature Adrenarche

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Adrenarche describes the development of the human adrenal cortex when the zona reticularis increases the synthesis of C19 steroids (DHEA/-S).

Interpretation of androgen and anti-Mullerian hormone profiles in a Hispanic cohort of 5- to 8-year-old girls with premature adrenarche [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2018
Purpose Premature adrenarche (PA) often leads to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Higher anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels are reported in PCOS. We studied the androgen profile and AMH profiles in Hispanic girls with PA (aged 5–8 years) and age and ...

Familial Hyperinsulinism due to HNF4A Deficiency and Benign Premature Adrenarche: A Case Report

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Students, 2021
Background: Familial Hyperinsulinism due to HNF4A deficiency (FHI-HNF4A) is a form of diazoxide-sensitive, diffuse hyperinsulinism, characterized by transient or persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia, and a propensity to develop Maturity-Onset ...

Heritability of serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate levels and pubertal development in 6∼18-year-old girls: a twin study

open access: yesAnnals of Human Biology, 2017
Background: Dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS), the most plentiful circulating adrenal hormone, may be considered as a marker of the onset of adrenarche and is involved in pubertal development and metabolic disorders.

Delayed adrenache in thalassaemia: a case series

open access: yesSri Lanka Journal of Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2017
Thalassemia major is a transfusion dependent genetically inherited haematological disorder that could lead to multiple endocrinopathies due to the chronic hypoxia and iron over load that is associated with this condition.
