Effect of preoperative administration of systemic alpha-2 agonists on postoperative pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesAnesthesia and Pain Medicine, 2020
Background Alpha-2 agonists have sedative, analgesic, and opioid-sparing effects. Moreover, intraoperative or postoperative systemic administration of alpha-2 adrenergic agonists is known to reduce postoperative pain and opioid consumption.

Interactions of Agonists with Platelet α2-Adrenergic Receptors [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 1982
Epinephrine induces human platelet aggregation by interacting with alpha-adrenergic receptors. These sites were demonstrated by radioligand-binding techniques using the new antagonist ligand, [3H]yohimbine. The sites labeled by [3H]yohimbine had the specificity of alpha 2-receptors with the affinity of yohimbine much greater than prazosin.

α-1-Adrenergic Receptor Agonist Activity of Clinical α-Adrenergic Receptor Agonists Interferes with α-2-Mediated Analgesia [PDF]

open access: yesAnesthesiology, 2009
Background The use of alpha-2 adrenergic agonists for analgesia is limited due to a narrow therapeutic window. Definition of the role of alpha receptor subtypes in alpha agonist mediated analgesia may identify strategies to separate the analgesic from sedative and cardiovascular effects ...

Inhibition of the lipolytic action of beta-adrenergic agonists in human adipocytes by alpha-adrenergic agonists.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
The aim of this study was to define the role of the alpha-adrenergic receptor in the regulation of lipolysis by human adipocytes. Glycerol production by isolated human adipocytes was stimulated by the pure beta-adrenergic agonist isoproterenol in a dose ...

Adjuvant dexmedetomidine in treatment of alcohol withdrawal delirium: Case series

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, 2023
Alcohol withdrawal delirium is a medical emergency with mortality rates of 20–50% without treatment. Benzodiazepines (BZDs) (gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor agonists) are the mainstay of treatment.

Concerted action of human chorionic gonadotropin and norepinephrine on intracellular-free calcium in human granulosa-lutein cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Luteal cells are known to possess receptors for LH/hCG and receptors of the beta-adrenergic type. Interactions of specific agonists with either receptor lead to the activation of adenylate cyclase and subsequently to an increase of cAMP.

Evaluation of Dexmedetomidine as an Adjuvant to Intrathecal Bupivacaine in Infraumbilical Surgeries [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2016
Introduction: Various adjuvants like morphine, buprenorphine and fentanyl, clonidine, ketamine are being used in anaesthetic practice since long for improvement of peri-operative analgesia following spinal anaesthesia. Such adjuvants have been helpful

β2-adrenergic agonists modulate TNF-α induced astrocytic inflammatory gene expression and brain inflammatory cell populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: The NF-kappa B signaling pathway orchestrates many of the intricate aspects of neuroinflammation. Astrocytic beta(2)-adrenergic receptors have emerged as potential regulators in central nervous system inflammation and are potential targets ...

Clonidine, dexmedetomidine: alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists in neuroscience

open access: yesInternational Journal of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology, 2018
The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α-2 AR) agonists have a long history of use in treating different clinical conditions, such as hypertension, psychiatric entities (e.g., attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder), chronic pain, panic disorders, and, lately, for treating opioid withdrawal syndrome.

The β-blocker Nebivolol Is a GRK/β-arrestin Biased Agonist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nebivolol, a third generation β-adrenoceptor (β-AR) antagonist (β-blocker), causes vasodilation by inducing nitric oxide (NO) production. The mechanism via which nebivolol induces NO production remains unknown, resulting in the genesis of much of the ...
