Clonidine, dexmedetomidine: alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists in neuroscience
The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α-2 AR) agonists have a long history of use in treating different clinical conditions, such as hypertension, psychiatric entities (e.g., attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder), chronic pain, panic disorders, and, lately, for treating opioid withdrawal syndrome.

Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptor Agonists Block Stress-Induced Reinstatement of Cocaine Seeking [PDF]
The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists, clonidine, lofexidine and guanabenz, blocked stress- but not cocaine-induced reinstatement of cocaine seeking at doses that suppressed footshock-induced release of noradrenaline in prefrontal cortex and amygdala.

The Role of BK Potassium Channels in Analgesia Produced by Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptors [PDF]
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Millions of people suffer from pain worldwide, and annually, great economic costs are imposed on societies for pain relief. Analgesics such as alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists, which have low risk of complications, can be ...

Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptor Agonists: A Review of Current Clinical Applications [PDF]
Abstract The α-2 adrenergic receptor agonists have been used for decades to treat common medical conditions such as hypertension; attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; various pain and panic disorders; symptoms of opioid, benzodiazepine, and alcohol withdrawal; and cigarette craving.1 However, in more recent years, these drugs have been ...

Effect of preoperative administration of systemic alpha-2 agonists on postoperative pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]
Background Alpha-2 agonists have sedative, analgesic, and opioid-sparing effects. Moreover, intraoperative or postoperative systemic administration of alpha-2 adrenergic agonists is known to reduce postoperative pain and opioid consumption.

Interactions of Agonists with Platelet α2-Adrenergic Receptors [PDF]
Epinephrine induces human platelet aggregation by interacting with alpha-adrenergic receptors. These sites were demonstrated by radioligand-binding techniques using the new antagonist ligand, [3H]yohimbine. The sites labeled by [3H]yohimbine had the specificity of alpha 2-receptors with the affinity of yohimbine much greater than prazosin.

Concerted action of human chorionic gonadotropin and norepinephrine on intracellular-free calcium in human granulosa-lutein cells [PDF]
Luteal cells are known to possess receptors for LH/hCG and receptors of the beta-adrenergic type. Interactions of specific agonists with either receptor lead to the activation of adenylate cyclase and subsequently to an increase of cAMP.

Adjuvant dexmedetomidine in treatment of alcohol withdrawal delirium: Case series
Alcohol withdrawal delirium is a medical emergency with mortality rates of 20–50% without treatment. Benzodiazepines (BZDs) (gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor agonists) are the mainstay of treatment.

Guanosine nucleotides regulate B2 kinin receptor affinity of agonists but not of antagonists: Discussion of a model proposing receptor precoupling to G protein [PDF]
The effect of nucleotides on binding of the B2 kinin (BK) receptor agonist {[}H-3]BK and the antagonist {[}H-3]NPC17731 to particulate fractions of human foreskin fibroblasts was studied.
