Abstract Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in cardiac surgery is associated with a high risk of postoperative neurological complications. Perioperative use of vasopressors is common to counteract arterial hypotension in this setting. However, use of α‐agonist vasopressors has been associated with cerebral desaturations.

Endothelial TRPV4–Cx43 signalling complex regulates vasomotor tone in resistance arteries

The No‐POPPY study (NCT03396588), a double‐blind, randomized trial compared morphine with clonidine therapy for neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) and found that the duration of treatment was similar across groups. This is significant because perinatal use of morphine has the potential for neurodevelopmental consequences.
