The influence of cutting height on arthropods in farm grassland
Mowing at a cutting height of 13 cm slightly reduced the immediate negative impact of mowing compared to mowing at a height of 7 cm. Medium‐term effects overrode this benefit: the number of vegetation‐dwelling arthropods remained strongly reduced two and four weeks after mowing, regardless of the cutting height.

Pathophysiology and emerging treatments for dermographic, cholinergic and cold urticaria
This review illustrates key proposed mast cell‐mediated activation pathways in dermographic, cholinergic and cold urticaria, highlighting IgE‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms. These pathways are increasingly targeted by emerging drugs, aiming to interrupt mast cell activation and mediator release, offering more precise, mechanism‐based treatment ...

Abstract Fewer than 50 of the over 30,000 extant species of fishes have developed anatomical specializations facilitating endothermy in specific body regions. The plankton‐feeding basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus), traditionally classified as an ectotherm, was recently shown to have regionally endothermic traits such as centralized red muscle (RM ...

Abstract Effective species conservation and management requires comprehensive biomonitoring, enhanced by combining traditional and newer methodologies, such as environmental DNA (eDNA) analyses. A seasonal pulse of spawning adult Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was detected by normalised eDNA 12S reads from metabarcoding, which facilitated estimation of ...

Changes in Quality and the Formation of Nε-Carboxymethyl-Lysine and Nε-Carboxyethyl-Lysine during Air-frying of Pleurotus eryngii [PDF]
The fluorescent advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and two typical AGEs, Nε-carboxymethyl-lysine (CML) and Nε-carboxyethyl-lysine (CEL) were identified in Pleurotus eryngii chips using fluorescence spectroscopy and ultra-performance liquid ...

Abstract Many Arctic fishes experience prolonged periods of extreme cold and large thermal variation over both rapid and seasonal time scales which challenge critical physiological functions. In the central Canadian Arctic, we caught wild adult lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) acclimatized to winter and summer temperatures to determine the extent to ...

Aerobic scope is sustained through a heatwave in juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)
Abstract Aquatic ectotherms are vulnerable to heatwave‐induced physiological stress, which arises from increased energy demands and reduced dissolved oxygen content in warmer waters. Understanding thermal physiology is critical for predicting how commercially and ecologically important populations could be affected by the increasing risk of rising ...
