Altered activity within the social behavior neural network in adolescent rats following prenatal alcohol exposure and/or early‐life adversity

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and early‐life adversity (ELA) independently and interactively disrupted neural activity within the social behavior network in adolescent rats, with age‐ and sex‐specific effects. PAE primarily dampened amygdala activity, while ELA altered medial prefrontal cortex responses. These findings reveal how different early‐life

Effect of aging on the development and progression of alcohol‐associated liver disease

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Age is a predictor for alcohol‐associated liver disease (ALD)‐related mortality. This study investigates the effects of aging on the ethanol‐induced development and progression of ALD in rats. This study demonstrates that chronic ethanol feeding increased liver injury markers and hepatic triglycerides across all age groups.

Ethanol‐induced Nrf2 suppression in the lung is mediated by AP‐1‐driven expression of miR‐144

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Previously, we determined that ethanol suppresses Nrf2 and thereby inhibits antioxidant and immune defenses in the lung. Clinically, individuals with AUD are vulnerable to pneumonia and acute lung injury. In this new experimental study, we report that ethanol inhibits Nrf2 in rat lung cells via the induction of miR‐144 in a mechanism dependent on the ...

Trajectories of medication for opioid use disorder and their impact on HIV testing among people who inject drugs in India: A longitudinal assessment of clinic‐based data

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 4, Page 745-755, April 2025.
Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to identify longitudinal trajectories of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) use throughout 1 year following MOUD initiation and to examine the association of trajectory membership with HIV testing among people who inject drugs in India.

Disentangling the temporal relationship between alcohol‐related attitudes and heavy episodic drinking in adolescents within a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 4, Page 645-654, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims Within many alcohol prevention interventions, changes in alcohol‐related attitudes (ARA) are often proposed as precursors to changes in drinking behaviour. This study aimed to measure the longitudinal relationship between ARA and behaviour during the implementation of a large‐scale prevention trial.

Associations of smoke‐free policies in multi‐unit housing with smoking behavior and second‐hand smoke exposure: A systematic review

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 4, Page 578-588, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aim Although considerable progress has been made regarding the implementation of smoke‐free policies (SFPs), many people continue to be exposed to second‐hand smoke (SHS) in the home environment. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review on the association of SFPs in multi‐unit housing (MUH) with smoking behavior ...
