THE EFFECT OF BLACK CUMIN SEED (Nigella Sativa L.) EXTRACT TO ALLOXAN INDUCES PANCREATIC TISSUE CATALASE ENZYME ACTIVITY OF MALE WISTAR RATS (Rattus norvegicus)

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Kedokteran Wijaya Kusuma, 2018
Alloxan causes the formation of reactive oxygen through the reduction process of alloxan (dialuric acid) in the β cells of pancreas. Free radicals cause damage  and decrease catalase enzyme activity.

Methylglyoxal Affects Dopamine Homeostasis in SH‐SY5Y Cells Through the Modulation of miR‐190a and miR‐214

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 5, 15 March 2026.
In SH‐SY5Y cells, Methylglyoxal (MGO) reduces the intracellular dopamine content, up‐regulating the expression of proteins that modulate dopamine amount (MAO‐B, COMT, and α‐Syn). The MGO‐induced increase of COMT and α‐Syn expression is mediated by the reduction of miR‐214 and miR‐190a levels.
