Unexpected high yield of acrolein underlies the importance of the hydrogen-abstraction mechanism in photooxidation of allyl methyl sulfide (AMS). [PDF]

open access: yesChemosphere, 2023
This work explores theoretically the gas phase oxidation of allyl methyl sulfide (AMS, H2CCHCH2SCH3) initiated by •OH radicals, focusing on the H-abstraction pathway at the M06-2X-D3/aug-cc-pVTZ and MN15/aug-cc-pVTZ levels of theory (m06Tz and mn15Tz).

Regio- and stereoselective reactions of (S)-(1-methylpyrrolidin-2-yl)methyl allyl sulfide

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1991
The synthesis and regioselective reactions of a chiral allyl sulfide, (S)-(+)-(1-methylpyrrolidin-2-yl)methyl allyl sulfide (MAS.1) are described. Remarkable α-regioselectivity was observed in the alkylation of the carbanion of MAS while 1∶3 mixtures of α-and γ-adducts were produced in the addition of the MAS anion to aldehydes.

Allicin and Allicin-Derived Garlic Compounds Increase Breath Acetone through Allyl Methyl Sulfide:  Use in Measuring Allicin Bioavailability

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2005
Progress in establishing systemic pharmacological effects for fresh, crushed garlic (Allium sativum L) in humans has been hindered by (1) the inability to measure allicin bioavailability, (2) lack of direct evidence that allicin has significant systemic activity at doses of garlic normally consumed, and (3) lack of a model for an acute effect.

The Thio-Wittig Rearrangement of Deprotonated Allyl Methyl Sulfide. A Gas-Phase Unimolecular Isomerization Probed with a Variable Temperature Flowing Afterglow-Triple Quadrupole Device

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1996
The thio-Wittig rearrangement of deprotonated allyl methyl sulfide has been examined in the gas phase with a variable temperature flowing afterglow-triple quadrupole device. Collision-induced dissociation studies of a series of thiolate anions (RS-) reveal that methyl deprotonation leads to 3-butene-1-thiolate (2a), the [2,3]-Wittig product, while 1 ...
