Aucubin: Potential Antidote For Alpha-Amanitin Poisoning
Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, 1984Aucubin, an iridoid glucoside isolated from Aucuba japonica (Cornaceae), exhibited significant protective activity against alpha-amanitin intoxication in mice. When a single dose of aucubin was administered intraperitoneally, a 50% survival rate was obtained even when the treatment was withheld for 12 hr after alpha-amanitin administration.

Sensitivity of alpha-amanitin to oxidation by a lactoperoxidase-hydrogen peroxide system
Toxicon, 2000Oxidation of alpha-amanitin - a potent hepatotoxin found in the mushroom Amanita phalloides - by a lactoperoxidase-hydrogen peroxide system was investigated by different techniques. (i). UV spectroscopy of the mixture after 24 h incubation reveals a significant decrease in the absorbance range characteristic of the putative reactive moiety of the toxin,

Biodistribution of radiolabeled alpha-amanitin in mice: An Investigation
ToxiconMushroom poisonings caused by Amanita phalloides are the leading cause of mushroom-related deaths worldwide. Alpha-Amanitin (α-AMA), a toxic substance present in these mushrooms, is responsible for the resulting hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. The objective of our study was to determine the distribution of α-AMA in Balb/c mice by labeling with ...

Evaluation of the genotoxicity of alpha-amanitin in mice bone marrow cells
Toxicon, 2017Alpha-amanitin is a known cytotoxic substance found in some mushroom species including Amanita phalloides. Its main mechanism of action is to block the transcription, which can lead to cell death. Lack of reports on the genotoxicity of this toxin was an inspiration for undertaking this experiment.
