ABSTRACT Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury presents a biphasic pathology: an acute oxidative‐inflammatory phase leading to organ failure, and a recovery phase marked by mucosal dysfunction and bacterial translocation. The developed MPB@TA‐Cu‐Ma nanocomposite functions as a dual‐phase therapeutic platform with significant efficacy. It rapidly

The repertoire of equine intestinal α-defensins
Background Defensins represent an important class of antimicrobial peptides. These effector molecules of the innate immune system act as endogenous antibiotics to protect the organism against infections with pathogenic microorganisms. Mammalian defensins

Molecular effects of stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 on psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic, relapsing, immune-mediated skin disease. Etiopathogeniesis of psoriasis includes pro-inflammatory cytokines such as: TNF-alpha, IL-12, IL-17, IL-23 etc.

Alpha-defensin binding expands human adenovirus tropism
Abstract Mammalian α-defensins are a family of abundant effector peptides of the mucosal innate immune system. Although primarily considered to be antimicrobial, α-defensins can increase rather than block infection by certain prominent bacterial and viral pathogens in cell culture and in vivo

Mechanism‐Informed Machine Learning Enables Discovery of Oncolytic Peptides for Cancer Immunotherapy
MISPOP integrates ensemble learning with membrane‐active physicochemical priors to identify Dermaseptin‐S9, a natural oncolytic peptide that disrupts tumor membranes, triggers immunogenic cell death, and shows strong antitumor activity. The study illustrates a mechanism‐informed route from peptide sequence data to cancer immunotherapy leads.

Conformational landscape and pathway of disulfide bond reduction of human alpha defensin [PDF]
AbstractHuman alpha defensins are a class of antimicrobial peptides with additional antiviral activity. Such antimicrobial peptides constitute a major part of mammalian innate immunity. Alpha defensins contain six cysteines, which form three well defined disulfide bridges under oxidizing conditions.

Antimicrobial resistance caused by Gram‐negative bacteria remains difficult to overcome due to the protective outer membrane. To address this challenge, a multi‐condition constrained generative AI framework, GenMTAMP is proposed for de novo membrane‐targeting antimicrobial peptide design by integrating physicochemical and spatial structure descriptors.

Raised plasma concentrations of alpha-defensins in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis [PDF]
Neutrophils are thought to play an important role in the pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Human neutrophils contain antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides in the azurophil granules which belong to a family of mammalian neutrophil peptides named alpha-defensins.

The Role of the Gut Microbiota in Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation
ABSTRACT Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo‐HCT) is an effective treatment for patients with high‐risk hematologic malignancies. Over the last decade, gut microbiota composition during allo‐HCT has been associated with patients' outcomes.

Paneth Cells during Viral Infection and Pathogenesis
Paneth cells are major secretory cells located in the crypts of Lieberkühn in the small intestine. Our understanding of the diverse roles that Paneth cells play in homeostasis and disease has grown substantially since their discovery over a hundred ...
