Targeting the nicotinic alpha7 acetylcholine receptor to enhance cognition in disease
Biochemical Pharmacology, 2011A promising drug target currently under investigation to improve cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders is the neuronal nicotinic alpha7 acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR). Improving cognitive impairments in diseases such as Alzheimer's (AD) and schizophrenia remains a large unmet medical need, and the α7nAChR has many ...

Alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor channels are important ligand-gated ion channels that are fast desensitizing, cation selective and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease. We report here high quality alpha7 parallel patch clamp recordings using the QPatch automated patch clamp system.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most prevalent kind of liver cancer, remains one of the world's main causes of death. The alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAchR) has been recognized to be overexpressed in malignancies and chemoresistance.

Aryloxyethylamines: Binding at α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2006Structure-affinity relationships for the binding of 3-[2-(N,N,N-trimethylammonium)ethoxy]pyridine (AXPQ) at alpha7 nACh receptors were investigated due to its close structural similarity to a known alpha7 antagonist.

The α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in neuronal plasticity
Molecular Neurobiology, 1999A growing body of evidence indicates that neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), in addition to promoting fast cholinergic transmission, may modulate other neuronal activities within the central nervous system (CNS). In particular, the alpha7 nAChR is highly permeable to Ca2+ and may serve a distinct role in regulating neuronal plasticity.
